Dilemma For Israel Boycotters As Jewish Israeli Scientists Make HIV Breakthrough
Breitbart London ^ | 8/27/15

Scientists in Israel have announced a breakthrough in HIV research, a development that will leave Israel boycotters with their latest ethical dilemma. The team from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev say their finding will result in a “revolutionary diagnosis and the key to the clinical solution that will prevent infection with HIV and will destroy the deadly virus.”

i24News reports that Dr Ran Taube of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Genetics at the southern Israeli university said his team has discovered similarities between HIV (the virus that leads to AIDS) and leukemia. Conducted in collaboration with Dr. Uri Rubio of Soroka University Medical Center, the research aims both to stamp out AIDS and to slow the progress of a rare mixed-lineage leukemia mostly occurring in children.

Despite the fact AIDS is now classed as a chronic disease treated with anti-retroviral drugs, to date there has been no treatment proven to prevent the spread of the HIV virus. The number of HIV-infected individuals still rises every year, so if this team of research scientists from Israel has made the breakthrough that leads directly or indirectly to the development of a workable vaccine they have done the world a great service.

Unfortunately a certain group of scientists from outside Israel will not be collaborating in this effort to develop a vaccine that would rid the world of HIV.

Since 2004 the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) has called for a boycott of Israeli academic institutions on the grounds they are “deeply complicit” in the oppression of Palestinians. Those supporting the campaign, which include backers of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign, believe in the “general overriding rule” that:

Since Moslems are notoriously among the worst anti-homosexuals on the planet, they will at least surreptitiously have more incentive for keeping up the BDS movement without appearing homophobic. It's a win-win for the Palis and there willing accomplices on the left. It's ironic that Israel is the most gay-friendly place in the Md-East. Are there any gay bars in Tehran? There were, until the ayatollahs took over. Any members of GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign, Lambda Society, etc. enjoying the same level of security and freedom of expression they do in the US in Libya, Yemen, Syria, etc. Ever hear of the Gaza chapter of Dykes on Bikes? Didn't think so.

There were persistent rumors that Arafat was a rump ranger and that he died of AIDS.

Possibly Israel would supply the rest of the world with HIV vaccine, but leave Palestine to develop its own competitive product...

When was the last time a medical or scientific breakthrough came from a Muslim country?

I bet the mullahs in Iran hope Israel will be sharing this new breakthrough with them, but Oh - -Iran has always stated that they will destroy Israel. Well, I guess that all those men in Iran who -for years now- have been having sex with those pigs that they haven’t eaten yet will just have to do without the new vaccine.

The Persians were well-known astronomers during the first centuries, pre-Mohammed. They did improve the Astrolabe. The astrolabe was used to determine prayer times and to find the direction to Mecca. Muslims claim to have invented it, but it was originally produced in Greece. Muslims produced some beautiful pieces in the 11 and 12th centuries.

If you go to college today, they can tell you how the Muslims saved western civilization from the depredations of the EVIL Crusaders who were hell-bent on destroying every vestige of literacy and science. Don't you know that Christians beheaded Michelangelo and da Vinci for heresy and burned the library at Alexandria?

Simple

They will blame the jooos for inventing AIDS so they can profit from the cure.

Not sure if this deserves a sarcasm tag because I’m pretty sure that’s what some are thinking.

They had to use a device to determine morning, noon, night? To tell north, south, east ,west?

Sadly, at one time the Arabs and Persians did have a productive civilization.

I would agree about the Persians; I am not familiar with any productive Arab period. The entire “Islamic Golden Age” is a modern construct with no historic basis whatsoever. Not one major discovery or invention can be credited to the Arabs during this period.

Arabs have been destroying civilization since prehistory, but Mohammed indelibly tied violence to their cultural identity. Their only contribution to history is eternal warfare and slavery combined with unhealthy doses of cultured ignorance, fanaticism, mysticism, misogyny, homosexuality and pharmacopeia. I am sure there are some aspects I’ve overlooked, but I try to focus positive things and that is anathema when it comes to Islam.

The fact that a few “enlightened” (heretical) Muslims did not kill everyone whom they conquered, and were thereby able to assimilate some cultural aspects from civilized nations, does not equate to building a civilization. Modern Islamic apologists can be likened to an anthropologist coming upon a troop of monkeys residing in an abandoned city and ascribing the development to the current residents.

Six things Arab culture contributed:

1. Algebra (named after its inventor, Al-Gibar)
2. Medicine (before the Arabs, people’s approaches to medicine were highly unscientific and superstitious- the Arabs started using the scientific method when they experimented with medicine)
3. The composite bow (a bow with pulleys at either end, making the bow much easier to pull.)
4. Techniques in sailing (the Arabs invented the “triangle” sail, replacing the square sails used by Europeans)
5. Astronomy (used for navigational purposes)
6. Unique concepts of steel forging (The steel made in Damascus was so light and flexible that there have been reports of Damascus blades “being capable of floating on water”. While this is probably just an exaggeration, only recently have scientists been able to rediscover some of the techniques used by the Arabs)

1. The first known algebraic equations known were from the Greek mathematician, Diophantus. Hindu culture is also credited with advancing algebra through Aryabhatta and numerous other mathematicians long before Islamic scholars. If algebra is defined as the application of arithmetical operations to both rational and irrational numbers or magnitudes, then the Indians are the true inventors of algebra. The Persian Mathematician Al Khwarizmi formalized the math already extent, and either way, the Arabs took custody of Indian and Greek science.

2. Ancient medicine was derived by the father of medicine, an unknown Arab named Hippocrates. “Modern” medicine using the “scientific method” was practiced in India for centuries prior to being translated to Arabic. The Arabs equally applied themselves to the study of poisons. They did expand this area of knowledge quite dramatically.

3. The compound bow (using pulleys) was not invented by Islam—it is thoroughly modern in origin. The Composite Bow was invented in Asia, hundreds of years before being picked up by scavenging Arabic hordes.

4. I suppose that may be so. It sounds like another improvement of existing invention.

5. Astronomy predates Islam by millennia. And their “navigation” improvements were detailed in the Astrolabe post.

6. While Western Europeans were first introduced to this material around the 3rd-4th centuries from the historical trading center of Damascus, in present-day Syria. However, its technical and physical origins were from India. Again, an appropriated technology.

Three of the “inventions” stand out as Islamic in nature: The astrolabe—needed to submit to the requirement for prayer. Then , of course, the Bow and the Sword to kill the infidel. Islam has produced generations of killers and they have always esteemed weapons.

Left off your list , yet truly of note was the Islamic invention of the assassin and the suicide bomber—no other culture has ever so applied themselves to the spread of terror and death. Vlad II of Wallachia was also a renowned, if reluctant, student of Islamic techniques. Such dedication and innovation should not be lightly dismissed.

Given the way Israel has been and is being treated, I have no problem with them keeping a close hold on this for use as political leverage.

You used Hindu-Arabic numerals to begin each point.

3. The composite bow (a bow with pulleys at either end, making the bow much easier to pull.)

A "composite" bow is made by laminating different materials together Typically, sinew was used on the outside surface for its tensile strength; horn was used on the inside for its compressive strength. A "compound" bow has the pulleys, which multiply the force of the archer's draw.

Composite bows of various sorts date to antiquity. The compound bow is a XX Century invention.

Oh my goodness! We Americans are true cultural agglomerates. Arab numerals and Latin characters—it’s almost as if we don’t try to claim them as our own inventions!
