What I discovered was that the world of Ashley Madison was a far more dystopian place than anyone had realized. This isnt a debauched wonderland of men cheating on their wives. It isnt even a sadscape of 31 million men competing to attract those 5.5 million women in the database. Instead, its like a science fictional future where every woman on Earth is dead, and some Dilbert-like engineer has replaced them with badly-designed robots.

But it turns out that there were about 12,000 actual breathing female persons using the site. The rest were just manufactured bait.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Kinda like the WH there is no real MALE president in there.
So where id the men on the site find hookups?
Almost none of the females and almost none of the males actually followed through using the site. So, like the Fl AG, they all just wanted to look out of curiosity? What about the gay contingent? Cait, did you use the site?
Match.com used this tactic when it first began. I found the same profile in four different cities with the same picture with totally different data. Of course none responded but I bet that many men signed up to meet them thinking they were real. I discovered the fakes on my Match.com feed.
I think that’s kind of hysterical. I’m laughing. Didn’t the dumb guys catch on? Apparently they weren’t thinking with their brains.
Ha.
I read somewhere that the "women" on the site were mainly on-line prostitution services. Not sure how that would work though - presumably, you must pay A-M to register, and for each "hit." Then it turns out your hook-up, is actually a hook-er who must also be paid? I suppose by that point, a guy so pathetically desperate would just go for it.
I’m beginning to form a theory...
Was Ashley Madison nothing but a gigantic “honey trap” designed to harvest identities, either for profit or extortion?

Well...duh. Women don’t need a website to pick up men. They just need to go to a bar and make eye contact.
All right, all right! I’ll contribute for god’s sake!
my syes,.. MY EYES!!!!!! I’m Blind Now!
Sheesh. Sounds like your basic Extortion for Dummies, page 9.
Any married woman who doesn’t have to wear a bag over her head can get laid without having to use AM.
I joined match.com and actually did meet some nice real people. So I know they are not totally full of fakes. Although I did suspect something when there were an awful lot of women suddenly interested in me after my initial subscription expired.
I might of would join again if I moved to another city for work (again)
You’d have a better chance picking up a chick at the Teddy Bear Bar in the Castro District in San Francisco.
Yes, it is kind of sad. I realize everybody using it was essentially a creep, but they were such deluded and pathetic creeps that you almost feel sorry for them.
That said, everybody who was caught using it from a government (or probably any other) work address should be fired. This is not for the ethical issues or even just wasting time on the job, but for security reasons. Obviously, the AM users were essentially giving out a key to their corporate or government email, and giving it to people who didn’t even exist. But they gave it to someone. Who and why?
