The White House on Wednesday took a swipe at Donald Trump, suggesting the Republican presidential front-runner cant handle tough questions about his views on immigration.
Press secretary Josh Earnest weighed in on Trumps decision late Tuesday to eject Univision news anchor Jorge Ramos from a press conference. Ramos had interrupted Trump with a question about deportations.
Im not sure that its a successful media strategy to physically remove reporters who are asking tough questions, Earnest told reporters at the White House.
Turning to a group of press aides, Earnest joked he would need a larger security detail if he followed Trumps example, although they are tougher than they look.
Trump's exchange with Ramos is the latest example of how the businessman's position on immigration is roiling the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Earnest said the campaign rhetoric coming from GOP candidates is alarming.
There is no denying the kind of rhetoric that weve seen when it comes to immigration policy is alarming to a lot of people, he said. I dont think it reflects the values that are shared by a vast majority of the American public.
After Ramos repeatedly tried to ask Trump a question in Iowa on Tuesday, Trump told him to "go back to Univision."
Moments later, a security guard escorted Ramos out of the room. He was later allowed to return to ask a question.
Ramos, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Mexico, told CNN he finds Trump's views on immigration offensive.
This is very important to the Hispanic community, he said in an interview Wednesday. This is also personal."
Does Josh Earnest leave an actual slime trail wherever he goes or does it just seem like he should?
.....While Americans give Mr. Trump more support.
Barry's whining about it will be worth an additional 5 points.
I don’t think they know how this will play in real America...
Here here to hecklers at ZerO’s next presser!
Mr thin Skin “ You’re in MY house...”
So if a guy from WND (who never is called on by Earnest) stood up in the press room and just started yelling and wouldn’t sit down, he’d be allowed to continue? Spare me.
ummm...those weren't questions.
Didn't he recently have a public hissy fit because a Fox reporter asked him a legitimate question???
I think you nailed it, he sure should.
But, Hillary has a successful strategy of removing herself from all reporters who might ask a tough question? Dumb-o-crate logic at its finest!
This is rich. Trump has done more press conferences in 3 months than Obama and Hillary and probably all the other candidates combined.
Obama has done practically no press conferences. that is rich. Obama cannot handle any tough questions.
But this is classic Trump. He sucks them all in and then he counter attacks. Trump has now elevated himself at the presidential level and has the go ahead to attack Obama etc.
Amazing. It’s Trump 24/7.
LOL! Amen to that!
Swipe away. He picked up 5 points for booting the Ramos the Agave Worm.
How about when Hillary roped the reporters like cattle. Was that being able to handle tough questions?
Ha!! Like Obama has EVER taken a question that wasn’t pre- scripted and asked in order by his stable of planted sycophantic, press lapdogs. That POS hasn’t answered any question off the cuff in 9 years, much less a tough question!!!
Josh Earnest needs to STFU and go away with the other disgusting, lying presstitude secretaries!
This story left out the facts about Jorge refusing to follow proper press conference decorum, wait until your called on. I’d love to see the next Obama PC go sideways with all the reporters shouting whatever and whenever they wanted.
I predict this will backfire on them.
I think the White House is covered with slime trails, and JE is definitely the source of some of them.
