It took courage above and beyond for Abraham Lincoln to push the country into a Civil War that he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt would divide this nation for decades
I don't agree. I think the words he wrote above are highly complimentary.
However complimentary they were intended, they aren't true. Lincoln did not push this country into a civil war. The slave power and secessionists did.
Perhaps he meant that it took courage to rouse the country and prosecute the war after it had begun. If so he chose the wrong words.
We’re going to disagree on this one. I think it did take a push by Lincoln to preserve the union.
I’m not sure now that it was the right move for the right reason. It might have been the wrong move for the right reason.
But all of a sudden we’re debating the Civil War instead of Charlie Daniel’s message which is distracted from.
I think I’ll get back to that. Feel free to have the last word on this side discussion.
