While officials say the water is safe for drinking, residents are urged to use caution with the water, not letting it get into their nose. Humans are infected when water containing the amoeba travels through the nose and migrates to the brain, destroying the tissue. Don't laugh while you sip your ice water in Louisiana, it could result in voting democrat in the next election!

It also sounds to me that the governor, rather than mounting an absolutely meaningless and vain presidential campaign, needs to get his ass home and deal with this.

Any way to pipe that water into the White Hut O’Muslims?
Oh, forgot, they’re already working without much brains.

Tonight's Feature on Monster Chiller Horror Theater is
The Brain Eating Amoebas Who Descended Upon Baton Rouge. It's about these amoebas from outer space who start growing in the water supply, and people drink them, and they
eat their brains!. And when they eat their brains the people turn into zombies and vote for Democrats. It's REEEALLY SCARY!!!
To: george76
So, you can drink it, but you can’t bathe in it, or even wash your hands and most certainly not your face.
That’s not good. You can buy bottled water to drink, but it’s very difficult to take a bath in.

I thought that brain-eating amoebas were found in public schools and universities. I know brain dead teachers and students are found there so I simply assumed.

If this amoeba found its way into the D.C. water supply, it would starve.

How warm is warm?
I jumped of a boat into a lake in east Tenn. a couple weeks ago. The water went up my nose and THEN I remembered our friend with boundary issues, N. fowleri.
So my kids should be fine because I told them to hold their noses.
The water was a real pretty greenish color. How warm is warm?

The early symptoms of Naegleria fowleri infection are similar to those caused by other more common illnesses, such as bacterial meningitis . People should seek medical care immediately whenever they develop a sudden onset of fever, headache, stiff neck, and vomiting, particularly if they have been in warm freshwater recently.
Naegleria fowleri is a heat-loving (thermophilic) organism. It grows best at higher temperatures up to 115°F (46°C)

I doubt many people are swimming in 115 deg. water.
So, 100? 90?
It turns into a cyst at 50 deg. Can the cyst warm up in your body? Can it survive freezing?
Granted, it’s about as rare as rabies, and possibly more survivable. But at least you generally know with rabies that you’ve been bit.
