A crowdfunding website has been set up for Christian cake artist Jack Phillips, who last week was told by the Colorado Court of Appeals that he will not be allowed to refuse to make same-sex wedding cakes if he wants to keep running his business. The website also notes that Phillips has said he would not make Hitler, pornographic, Halloween, or other cakes with themes against his beliefs.
"As stated in court briefs, for 20 years, Jack has declined to make Halloween cakes, pornographic cakes, profane cakes, etc. Nor would he make Hitler cakes, KKK cakes, or anything of that kind if he were asked," the campaign on the Continue to Give website states.
The page has identified a goal of $200,000 in support of Phillips, noting that the money will be used by the Masterpiece Cakeshop owner and his family as they "fight for their freedom of religion and freedom of speech."
The appeals court upheld two previous rulings last week that found Phillips guilty of discrimination against a same-sex couple that requested a wedding cake from his store in 2012.
Phillips said due to his religious beliefs that marriage is solely between a man and a woman, he cannot make them such a cake, but offered to make them other items from his store.
The Continue to Give page says that Phillips has been harassed heavily ever since that incident, with the phone at his bakery receiving "the most vile, hateful" messages, both about the baker and about his faith.
"The calls were so vile, Jack would not allow the employees to answer the phone for weeks. The second day, a caller threatened to kill Jack as well as anyone in the bakery," it states.
The Colorado court ruled that Phillips cannot use his religious beliefs or free speech rights to refuse to make such cakes, however.
The baker has stopped making wedding cakes since last year, which the crowd-funding website noted has cost him significant business.
"These attacks are intended to drive Jack out of business. To avoid further harassment and lawsuits and because of the ruling, he has chosen to follow a law that takes away his freedom of speech and freedom of religion, and he has stopped making wedding cakes while his case goes through the courts. Revenue has fallen by about 40 percent since he stopped making wedding cakes," the message stated.
While the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado, the law group representing gay couple Charlie Craig and David Mullins, has said that the case is about all Americans being treated equally, Alliance Defending Freedom has argued that it is an "American freedom" to decline to use one's artistic talents to promote a message one disagrees with.

So, Jack Phillips is a slave now?
Of course judges are making up the law as we go along.
But, I hope he has somewhat of a case based on the fact that he doesn’t just single out homosexual weddings. He also doesn’t do Hitler cakes, Halloween events, or anything suggestive or pornographic. Homosexuality is just one of a long list of things he doesn’t cater to.
Legally I don’t know if any of this will make a difference to liberal judges. Just saying, he is not singling out homosexuality as something he cannot cater to.
It’s great that there’s a crowd funding option like Continue to Give that allows people to help folks like this baker. Given that GoFundMe sides with the leftist totalitarian bullies and refuses to do so.
Iirc it was either this case or one of the others where Continue to Give said they were being harassed and pressured to stop assistance efforts, but were responding by not giving in and telling the little fascists “Have a blessed day!”
I don’t see what is so hard about this.....
“I am severely affected when I am forced to do something against my will and it has a negative affect on the quality of my products. If I feel like I am being pressured to do something I don’t want to, I sometimes “accidentally” lose track of time and pull the cake out of the oven before it is fully baked. I also “accidentally” have drool and snot drip into the batter while I am crying if I am made to perform under duress. Now that I have fully disclosed how being forced to make cakes effects me, do you still want me to make it for you?”
if only there was a country he could move to where he and his family wouldn’t be persecuted for their religious beliefs.
...
I keep saying - ditch the dolls on the tops of wedding cakes. Bake plain white cake layers. Coat them with plain white icing. Keep a few floral decorations & other plain decorations. Let people purchase the florals, or other, they want to decorate their cakes with. Do not engage in discussion about the nature of the weddings you sell cakes to. Generic & shut up, or just get out of the business if you can’t make the queers SHUT UP about “their” weddings.
Jack and others need to start making Genesis holy matrimony cakes using Genesis verses about man and woman in marriage
Then sell them to anyone
Iran? Saudi Arabia?
Oops, wrong religion
RE: if only there was a country he could move to where he and his family wouldnt be persecuted for their religious beliefs.
I can’t think of any western country anymore...
Well, since I don’t have any choice in the matter I suppose I’ll just have to make that cake that looks like a courthouse in Colorado being blown to bits with pieces of little judges flying everywhere.
I wouldn’t want to offend anyone by refusing the request, right?
Lawyers aren’t handling this right IMO.
This argument needs to be restructured.
As long as it’s characterized as as dispute between two groups of PEOPLE (gays vs Christians) the Christians will continue to lose.
Soon we will all be forced to sponsor and march in gay parades. We’ll be forced to be their sex slaves.
Lawyers need to hammer the point that sodomy is the ACTIVITY by which gays CHOOSE to define themselves. The baker chooses to define them as men and women, customers like anyone else, while not necessarily being willing to accommodate every customer’s order.
No one should be forced to endorse or participate in any ACTIVITY that violates an individual’s conscience.
To suggest a businessperson MUST bake a cake for a gay wedding is as absurd as insisting that a businessperson MUST sponsor a rap concert or a hooker’s convention, and then suggest a refusal constitutes discrimination against blacks or women.
Halloween cakes, pornographic cakes, profane cakes, etc. Nor would he make Hitler cakes, KKK cakes, or anything of that...
Hell if there is a demand for this I will make it.
RE: Hell if there is a demand for this I will make it.
Well, there ya go, so, why can’t this gay couple go to folks like you instead?
I need a bakery first. But if you have a demand for hitler cakes why not fill the void. I am sure the gays ask for these since the brownshirts were fags that helped hitler get into power.
Brilliant!
