WASHINGTON The Obama administration has delivered a warning to Beijing about the presence of Chinese government agents operating secretly in the United States to pressure prominent expatriates some wanted in China on charges of corruption to return home immediately, according to American officials.
The American officials said that Chinese law enforcement agents covertly in this country are part of Beijings global campaign to hunt down and repatriate Chinese fugitives and, in some cases, recover allegedly ill-gotten gains.
The Chinese government has officially named the effort Operation Fox Hunt.
The American warning, which was delivered to Chinese officials in recent weeks and demanded a halt to the activities, reflects escalating anger in Washington about intimidation tactics used by the agents. And it comes at a time of growing tension between Washington and Beijing on a number of issues: from the computer theft of millions of government personnel files that American officials suspect was directed by China, to Chinas crackdown on civil liberties, to the devaluation of its currency. . .

Imagine sending intelligence agents to hunt down expats who owe taxes or who have stashed stolen assets .... ! Don’t these people have an IRS for that?
Lol!!!!
More like the Chinese govt wants to repatriate their stolen money
Why, this is a matter of national urgency! That money could be used to buy a large number of Amerivan politicians!
It seems that there is more to the story than recovering money hidden in U.S..

Hes allowing this, testing testing
Apparently so
Obama still showing a lot more concern over this than against espionage against our strategic defenses and economy
Such public pushback against Chinese spying is unusual, which suggests both that this particular defector is highly prized and that recent tensions and issues with China are adversely affecting the larger government to government relationship.
Does anyone doubt we have the capability to find and track these Chinese agents, especially they way they are so blatant about it in the Chinese community?
So, the FBI picks them up, and has them on a plane to Beijing that afternoon.
He’s just noticing that NOW ..?? Talk about a day late and a dollar short .. this guy is just plainly out to lunch.
As much as he's bent over backwards to assist them and the Russians (showing how "flexible" he can be), both probably do laugh at him behind his back. Don't know if he can be categorized as a "useful idiot" though, since UIs are typically defined as being unwitting naive dupes of the enemy.
I’m trying to find the political or progressive angle here. Bath House thinks only in these terms. Why would he give a crap about chinese ex-pats here when he couldn’t give a rat’s behind about Americans stuck in overseas prisons. Maybe these Chinese are big donors to the DNC?
And, a threat to never play golf in China.
The essence of good counter-intelligence is usually not disclosure but to watch and then neutralize or recruit the agent so as to double them against their handlers. Unfortunately, the Chinese rely on a multiplicity of agents, many of whom are amateurs, so there is a tendency for some to slip past our detection and screening effort.
