RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) A Riviera Beach police officer was videotaped confronting a disabled veteran for not looking "handicap" for parking in a disabled parking space.
U.S. Army combat veteran Isiah James, who has served nearly 10 years for our country, was absolutely shocked when a trip to a popular Riviera Beach drug store turned confrontational with the law.
James says he was issued a disabled person parking permit, and it was properly displayed in his vehicle the entire time.
During his deployment, James took fire and was hit with a blast from an IED, which left him medically discharged and permanently disabled, he told WPEC.
The cop in question was identified as Riviera Beach Sergeant Gary Wilson. Wilson is now being investigated by Internal Affairs following the heated confrontation with James.
The Riviera Beach Police Department issued this statement after seeing the video:
Many of you have expressed your concerns, passion, and support for Veterans as it relates to an incident involving one of our Police Officers and a Veteran. We, as an organization, share the same gratitude and respect for Veterans. We support Veterans and appreciate their commitment to serve our country. Although the department has not yet received an official statement regarding the incident in question, an Internal Affairs Investigation is already in effect. As a Department, we ask that you allow opportunity to complete the investigation. You can remain certain that the investigation will be thorough and transparent. The Office of the Chief of Police is always open, and takes seriously all customer service issues. However, we cannot support the use of profanity of any type on any of our social media sites. Use of such language will cause your comment(s) to be removed immediately.
“and takes seriously all customer service issues. “
Anyone besides me see the problem here?
Yeah...I’m a “customer” eh?
You work for ME, AZZWIPE!
Yeah, the person making the statement should be working at a drive thru.
disgusting and they wonder why cops get a bad rep.
Is it any wonder we are so hosed? A group of people in that Dept actually had to make a conscious decision to hire others with the philosophy that a PD is like a Walmart.
And of course that means the city council was involved.
No Steve. Letting Liberals educate kids since the 60s is fine. Really. Nothing to worry about. It’s not like PDs will aver ask you if you’d like fries with your ticket right?

City councils should be outlawed, based on ones I have seen.
Must be a pretty slow day for the cops when they’re reduced to checking handicapped IDs.
Meanwhile, the two black babes with a wide load and thunder thighs, park in the next handicapped spot, waddle in and pick the electric carts so they can do their shopping. Their disability? Too many Cheetos. Or whatever.
I see them all the time. They’re disgusting. They’re “entitled”.
PennDot has the same 'customer service' mentality. I always thought a customer had the option of taking his business down the street to the competition. Sounds like the chief means well but the mindset's out of whack.
the cop had no more right to berate a disabled person than anyone else, in California at least, his only option would be to ask to see the DMV printout verifying the placard was issued to the person in question, thank him and leave. Not every disabled person show constant obvious symptoms, I don’t, yet I am disabled and do have a placard which depending on the severity of my symptoms I will or will not use. This cop needs anger management intervention and a real hard look if should continue to be out with the public.
I am a disabled veteran. I have a prosthetic leg...I walk pretty well with it...
If this officer had stopped me and done what he did with this gentleman, he would no longer be working on that police force and that city would be quite a bit poorer after I finished my lawsuit...
This was extremely shameful..................
It just speaks to my belief that liberals belong in cages. They exist as a danger to humanity and an affront to logic.
How about a Cage City ?
Anyone ever talked to a disabled parking space advocate about fakers parking in those spots?
Oh, my gosh. CALL the POLICE, lol.

Same with me. All the cop had to do was scan the bar code on the placard and it would show the guy’s name. I don’t think that’s the problem. I think this cop had “determined” this guy wasn’t really handicapped.
Or Thunderdome.

In fact, you can do this. Leave for a better state, and take your income and resources with you. Vote with your feet. I really liked Georgia EXCEPT for the Atlanta traffic, which reached insane levels in the mid-late 90’s. I left Illinois in the early 90’s and have been laughing at the hapless victims there ever since.
