But they care. Therefore they can’t be blamed.

Waitresses making $15 an hour no longer getting tips, many of them are taking home less money. Plus businesses have slashed free meals and free parking in some places.

Just 1000 jobs? Shoot, raise it to $20/hr, that will make up the difference.

That number will increase once the automation is put into place. There’s no doubt that anyone who owns a restaurant is looking into the long term savings afforded with automation.

Sometimes I wonder if the underlying motive for this is to drive the “minimum wage crowd” OUT of the cities, so the white liberals can gentrify as cheap real estate and rentals become available. They only care about “diversity” when it doesn’t affect their own interests.

After all, one doesn’t hear much about the gentrification taking place in the Mecca of SF which is driving minorities out and into Oakland and Richmond

Just a coincidence. Bush’s fault. Greedy capitalist restaurant owners. I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn’t have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn’t come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts . . .

The government doesn’t have the right to set an hourly rate.
The people who voted for the dems have themselves to blame.

With a nod to Paul Shanklin...
They were next in line.

At a fast-food joint on the edge of town,
A liberal guy and a liberal gal
lost their favorite bar run by their favorite pal.

'cause if there's one thing that this world needs
It's a minimum wage that will take the lead

And they dined with pride
in a Yugo.

I hope the minimum wage gets doubled to 30 dollars an hour in Seattle. Everyone who voted Democrat deserves a better pay check.

The other side is many will voluntary cut hours. Make to much, and you no longer qualify for assistance.

We see that at my job a lot. Some will work right up the the dollar where they begin to lose benefits, and call in sick after that. We fire them, but one person I gave an exit interview with laid out what she was going to lose, and how much we would have to pay her to make it work her time to work.

I did some quick checking, and she was right. Losing housing assistance, WIC, child care assistance, free school lunches... it was worth more to her to work a little bit than to get paid to much.

Gee, Seattle businesses are in the tank because the Seattle politicians INCREASED the costs of doing business for all businesses by mandating $15 per hour minimum wages? What on God's green Earth do politicians know about running ANY business? They have no clue. Labor is the most expensive component a business has and costs of business must be kept under control so that everyone gets paid, products delivered, vendors paid, and a profit is made. Skew the cost of doing business by unfunded mandate and the business owner only has a few ways to react: cut benefits, cut hours, cut staff, raise prices, automate, move his business, or go out of business. It IS really that simple, you political fools.
