Seattle ‘Gun Violence’ Tax Set to Pass ($25 per gun - $.05 per round)
PJ Tatler ^ | August 9, 2015 | Rick Moran

There isn’t a far-left issue that the Seattle City Council hasn’t passed or considered passing. So you just knew that they would get around to screwing gun owners in some novel and inventive way.

How about a $25 tax on every firearm sold? Add to that a 5 cent tax on every cartridge and you have the typical liberal assault on law-abiding gun owners.

But that’s only part of the package. There’s also a provision to require gun owners to report the theft or loss of any firearm within 24 hours.

The tax is expected to bring $300-500,000 a year to city coffers

As if it would be so difficult to go outside the city limits to buy guns and ammunition.

With Obamacare why is the city of Seattle paying anything for the care of gunshot victims? Sales of guns and ammo should go up in surrounding communities.

Then they’ll say the guns are being imported into the city

“.....It shouldn’t be difficult to get this struck down.”

Perhaps, but it’s Seattle. Even the Pigeons crapping on the judges car are far left.

“I see gun shops going out of business in Seattle.”

A couple of the large sporting stores in Seattle are rumored to move their gun sales out of Seattle. Although I think it would make more sense to just move the entire inventory.

So a box of 25 shotgun shells will go from $8 to $9.25. Times 4 to 6 for a trip to the trap range. Our gas tax just went up another 6 cents a gallon too. Something like 44 cents/gallon just in state tax, plus iirc 18 cents for the feds.

It would make much more sense to tax those with no firearms and ammunition to help defray the cost of their protection.

This plan wouldn’t work very well in California. There aren’t that many gun owners here.

Can states whittle away at the first amendment?

Why is the second amendment a state’s issue?

It shouldn’t at all.

If our founding documents are valid, then they should trump.

Gun laws in municipalities, counties, and states should be invalidated.

There’s something in the water and air in Seattle that makes them so crazy liberal which as we all know is a mental disease. Could be the lack of sunlight too. Whatever it is; I hope they keep themselves in that hole and stay there. We sure as heck don’t want them down here in the Southwest.

Consider: if having a photo ID is an unconstitutional burden on minorities because they cannot afford the free ID (are you chitting me?), then does it not follow that this tax is ALSO unconstitutional, since they cannot afford to exercise their 2nd amendment rights?

Let’s see their argument that the latter is not true but the former is legit. A legal brief in the form of a pretzel, I’m sure.

“...use the state’s gun law preemption provision to end this liberal nonsense.”

I’m pretty sure that’s what will happen. Gun laws are made at the state level. Seattle has tried to do this sort of thing before. Last time it was trying to pass local bans on guns in all sorts of places where it’s legal in the rest of the entire state. They were told no. Seattle leadership (what am I saying, they have no leadership) are very slow learners.

Well, if I recall correctly, just a short two or three years ago, some strip / dance club, challenged Seattle's tax on them (that tax they & others had been paying for over twenty years,) the (federal) courts found that to be a tax on their first amendment rights, the City of Seattle loss that case.

My guess, is Seattle is hoping no one will bother to bring a lawsuit, and collect the money that they loss in the other case, at least for twenty plus years.

Hey, they didn't return any of that money, COLLECTED ILLEGALLY.

I see gun shops going out of business in Seattle.

Nope, they will move one town over and save not having to pay $15 per hour to boot.
