US judge: Sheriff didn’t violate Hispanics’ civil rights (North Carolina)

The U.S. Justice Department failed to prove a North Carolina county sheriff ordered deputies to target Hispanic residents in violation of their civil rights, a federal judge ruled Friday.

Judge Thomas Schroeder dismissed the government’s civil lawsuit against Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson. Justice Department attorneys failed to demonstrate that Johnson’s agency engaged in a pattern of unconstitutional law enforcement against Hispanics, the judge ruled. The government had alleged Johnson’s deputies routinely targeted Latinos for traffic stops.

A statistical study commissioned by the DOJ said the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office was as much as 10 times more likely to stop Hispanic drivers for traffic infractions than non-Latino drivers. But that evidence fell short since government attorneys failed to point to anyone who was mistreated, Schroeder wrote in a 253-page ruling issued nearly a year after he presided over a trial without a jury. […]

DOJ spokeswoman Dena Iverson said the agency was disappointed in the ruling and will review it before deciding whether to appeal. …

I give up.

I can find no race called “hispanic” or “latino”.

Spaniards are from the European peninsula known as Iberia, and share the R1B haplotype with the Irish, the Welsh, much of Britain, the Bretons and all sorts of other Europeans.

They speak a language called “Spanish” (um, “Spainish”) which is just a rather harsh version of Roman Latin.

So uh...what race are they that they could be “profiled”?

I noticed AP was careful to not use the word “race”.

They are getting more cagey about it. In the context of talking about "hispanics" (=anyone who speaks Spanish, apparently), they will talk about police racism in a disconnected sense - in other words, the race is implied, but not identified. Hey, we were just talking generally! We didn't say Mexicans were a race! Stop criticizing!

It's a dodge. As always, they are trying to equate nationality with race.

Here is an easy assumption:
Every cop car that pulls up behind you while you are driving, marked or not, has a scanner and computer on board that automatically scans your plate and will ping the LEO if there is any issue, at all, with that plate.
Lapsed auto insurance-ping.
Expired registration-ping.
Arrest warrant/suspended license for plate owner-ping.
Report of stolen car/plate-ping.
(Registered voter-ping)

It doesn't matter how dark your windows are tinted,or how careful you are to obey all traffic laws, new technology just pings and pings all sorts of interesting things to those Federal, State, County and local City government/police departments who paid for the software solutions! LOL.
