It was beautiful — and some parts economically-bankrupt when I was there for a job interview in 1999. I saw fairly-large mall, all closed, and an out-of-business Applebee’s right in the middle of an otherwise prosperous area. It was very odd. All overgrown with weeds.

The city of Austin is in Travis County. Austin County is about 50 miles west of Houston. Sealy, Bellville, Wallis, Cat Spring, New Ulm, Industry, Nelsonville, Blieberville, and a bunch of other small towns.
