I am very old, 81, and wonder if students these days are taught ANY grammar. I remember those hot days in school (no one had air conditioning), studying/writing sentences that had to be complete. Also remember English tests and those sentences written had to have proper subject, proper verb, proper adverb, prepositions, adjectives, etc.. Diagramming sentences was done over and over, year after year.
I was a teacher in elementary school, then a school counselor/psychological examiner and through all those years students still learned grammar. I was the coordinator and counselor/psychological examiner after that in a Junior college and they still learned grammar there. These years with direct contact with schools ended in 1989.
After 1989, I don't know what schools taught but I think students after that time, started a downward grammar slide.
Maybe someone on this thread has kids in school and know if grammar is still taught.
True. But today’s students know how to put a condom on a cucumber. Much more important than knowing how to communicate orally and in writing./S
