CNN)—A manhunt is underway for a suspect who fatally shot a police officer during a traffic stop in Tennessee, authorities said Sunday.
Memphis Police Officer Sean Bolton, 33, was shot multiple times Saturday night by a person who was in the car he pulled over, police said.
The assailant remains at large, Memphis police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said.

The murder of this officer and the other one recently in CA demonstrate why officers order drivers out of their cars when they act combatively or suspiciously and why “unarmed” suspects sometimes get shot when they resist arrest.
An officer never knows when a traffic stop will turn deadly and those who hesitate or try to be too nice can wind up dead.
If people want to exercise their right to remain silent, freedom of speech or right to not consent to searches, great. But do so in a civil manner, keep your hands on the steering wheel and immediately step out of the vehicle if ordered to do so. It is in everyone’s best interest not to make the officer fearful for his safety. .

Part of King Obama's plan to cause such havoc that martial law will be instituted and he will get a third term. Currently nothing to stop him and to hope for the 2016 change in the White House might be a dream. Electing a Republican in the WH will be hard. Too many Republicans will not accept the candidate the voter select and once again will not vote. Never forget the perfect example in the 2012 when we had a chance to stop King Obama. And, not just that, he used the scene of the death of the young white police officer for political causes.
I don't know how many officers were on the scene for this one.
Plus tensions are high after the recent police shooting of black teen Darrius Stewart by a white police officer.
The damages against the police for the shooting of Darrius are going to be really costly for the city. Turns out he lost all his future earnings as a medical doctor.

Have you noticed that there are a lot of police officers being shot lately?
Just confirmed through news story — apparently the officer was alone. A citizen witness used the officer’s radio to call for help.
Ironic that the mayor was at the initial news conference last night — rumor has it he is responsible for the one officer per patrol car policy.
I still haven’t seen a description of the suspect in news stories. But I know the suspect is a six foot black male in his early 20’s.

I agree, but I'll be damned if I do the "Yes sir, no sir" routine. That might change if I'm away from the safety of my keyboard ( :-) ) and get pulled over, but if so, I plan to say only "Understood" and do what The Man says.
Remember, this is the same guy who believes Memphis can solve most of its problems by digging up the remains of Nathan Bedford Forrest and putting him in a new grave outside the city limits.
I grew up near Memphis; the city’s long decline is very sad. Fifty-five years ago, Memphis and Atlanta were roughly equal in size. Atlanta is hardly a paradise (IMO), but it left Memphis in the dust because the politicians learned to work with the business community and build the economy.
Memphis should be thankful Fred Smith decided to move FedEx from Little Rock to the Bluff City decades ago. FedEx is one of the few major corporations that has grown in Memphis over the past 30 years; many more have moved, sold out, or merged with other firms headquartered elsewhere. Beyond FedEx, welfare is probably the other major element of the Memphis economy. And who has presided over the city’s decline? Why, the Democratic Party, of course.
Any growth in the Memphis area is outside the city limits. Anyone able to make the move (black and white) relocated to places like Germantown, Collierville, Fayette County and northern Mississippi years ago. From time to time, there’s talk about fully consolidating government functions in Memphis and Shelby County, a proposal that is met with a resounding “hell no” by anyone living outside the city.
Memphis is firmly on the Detroit/Baltimore track for urban rot and decay. The “yuts” and the criminal class are running wild, while political leadership wonders how they relocate General Forrest—and claim credit for that important victory over racism.
There was no mistaken identity in the Darius Stewart case. The warrant (for sex crimes) from Iowa had his name, birthdate, birthplace and mother’s name.
