TR hunted animals for museums. He had many many porters carrying salt for the hides. In his book he did write that he started to hate lions and killed them on sight. Tree hugger Cleveland Amory wrote about TR in the 1970s and he was not nice about it.

I’m kind of curious as to why the lion didn’t return to its territory when wounded. Everything I’ve read about lions suggests that they will return to the safety of their own territory if injured.
I wonder if the lion had been driven out of its territory by a younger stronger lion. An adult lion without a home territory is a real danger to people and faces a pretty uncertain future as it is.
