Thank you so much for posting this. Nothing like Steyn’s brilliant writing to make me smile even while he is reminding me of how dire our situation is.
I especially loved the paragraph that contains the following:
A significant section of the GOP base is sick of dialing Republican headquarters and hearing “Press 1 for Spanish, press 2 for consultant-approved claptrap, press 3 for artful straddle....
(My ellipsis is just for brevity, as the words that follow are just as cleverly crafted.)
Shall we have a simple solution?
Every employer must verify that his employees are US citizens or possess a legal work permit, ie HB-1 visa or similar document.
Than any one caught employing an individual that is neither a citizen nor possessing a valid work permit is fined $10,000 per illegal employee per day. This should apply to every employer from Fortune 500 company to individual households hiring gardeners.
The problem would solve itself.
