Donald Trump should do an all-out Steve McQueen the next time he comes under attack for lack of a military record.
McQueen, a young Donald Trump lookalike, was a great actor who took grief from no one, including reporters. He didn't have much of a military record, except for barroom fights, even though he was a Marine.
"I live for myself and I answer to nobody," McQueen once said, sounding a lot like Trump.
McQueen, who died too young, was asked about his combat experience by Frank Sinatra in the gritty World War II flick Never So Few.

I really admire honesty, even when I disagree.
Bill Clinton actively dodges the draft,
and the left goes after a “conservative” because he has no military experience?
Media bias in favor of Democrats...shocking!
Could you imagine the MSM if a Republican POTUS had a “Monica”?
Hey—Don’t forget that Bill Clinton called out the Arkansas National Guard at some point.
And Trump actively dodged the draft. It's not the only thing that he and the Clintons have in common.
I’m enjoying Trump’s run but he’s no Steve McQueen - much less a double for him. McQueen was a Marine and a staunch Republican his entire life.
Definitely, Steve McQueen died too young.
We all know that sexual ‘violations’ does not disqualify one from seeking the Oval Office.
Funny, I was under the impression that McQueen was in the navy.
The story is that he was on ship when exposed to the asbestos which was responsible for his cancer.
Marines sometimes serve on ships.
He still lives amongst the motor biking fraternity in the UK.
At 16, McQueen left Chino and returned to his mother, now living in Greenwich Village. He then met two sailors from the Merchant Marine and volunteered to serve on a ship bound for the Dominican Republic.[7] Once there, he abandoned his new post, eventually being employed as a "towel boy" in a brothel.[8] Afterwards, McQueen made his way to Texas, and drifted from job to job. He worked as an oil rigger, a trinket salesman in a carnival, and a lumberjack.
Military service[edit]
In 1947, McQueen joined the United States Marine Corps and was promoted to private first class and assigned to an armored unit.[7] At first, he reverted to his prior rebelliousness, and was demoted to private seven times. He took an unauthorized absence by failing to return after a weekend pass expired, staying with a girlfriend for two weeks until the shore patrol caught him. He resisted arrest and spent 41 days in the brig.[7] After this, McQueen resolved to focus his energies on self-improvement and embraced the Marines' discipline. He saved the lives of five other Marines during an Arctic exercise, pulling them from a tank before it broke through ice into the sea.[7][16] He was assigned to the honor guard, responsible for guarding then US President Harry Truman's yacht.[7] McQueen served until 1950 when he was honorably discharged. He later said he had enjoyed his time in the Marines.[17]
No idea if it's really true but it sounds like something he'd do.
TRUMP was rejected from the military because of bone spurs. Apparently bone spurs can be caused by strenuous activity such as sports.
For those that have never had bone spurs, they can be extremely painful and make walking difficult.
I know nothing about Trump in that regard, only pointing out that although not a “serious” medical problem, they could make getting through boot camp a nightmare.
I tried to join the Army three times... rejected due to crappy hearing (”You’re too deaf to fire artillery, boy”).....
I agree with Heinlein, they should HAVE to take you, but only vets should be allowed to vote, hold office or work in any taxpayer funded job. Hell at 54 I’d still go if I had reasonable expectation of some sort of employment when I got back; did 3 miles this morning and then lifted weights for 45 minutes, by 0600.
And I don’t even need hearing protection to fire artillery, I bet :-)
Firing? Probably not. But hearing the proper coordinates as to where to fire......
Everybody back then who was going to college got student deferments. It was commonplace. Trump’s lottery draft number was 356. They would have drafted women and children before him in the NYC lottery pool. So I would not call that draft dodging.
Iraq, Iran.... oops :-)
