Baltimores hotel business is slumping this summer, just a year removed from a banner season for tourism and reflecting the lingering impact of Aprils riots.
Hotels in downtowns central business district posted an average occupancy rate of 73.3 percent in June, down from 82.5 percent in the year-ago month, according to data from travel research firm STR Inc. The occupancy rate in May dropped 17.1 percent to 64.7 percent.
As colleague Camille Harrison and myself reported in Fridays cover story of the BBJ, hotels arent the only businesses feeling the sting from the riots.
Museums and attractions are struggling, and coming up with new ways to bring tourists back to Baltimore.

Look at this LAME excuse from the article:
“Visit Baltimore, the citys tourism arm, is running Internet radio and newspaper ads across the mid-Atlantic in effort to win back visitors. Tom Noonan, the agencys CEO, says that Baltimore has seen tourism decline as a result of suburbanites being reluctant to return to their favorite city attractions.”
Oh yeh,,THAT’S the reason,,the suburbanites don’t want to come back to the city attractions.
Uh huh.
...probably due to fear of gun-toting TEA PARTY Extremists.
(watch, the media will blame us for their problems)
I think that's an excellent idea! They could tour Baltimore in these vehicles:
Before the left destroyed Baltimore as they have done most large urban areas, I spent a day and a half in Baltimore with a blown clutch. A nice black family owned an auto parts store and went out of there way to get me fixed up with the right clutch that they drove all over the city to find and gave me a place for me to do the work myself as in 1975 I didn’t have money for labor. This was before the slimy leftists got people thinking they were getting a raw deal having to work for a living
DUH!!!
LOL! My wife and I just last night were joking how we must be insane for taking our kids down there two weekends from now. Every summer we go down to see the Orioles vs A’s series. We stay at the Hilton right across the street from Camden Yards and about .5 mile from the Inner Harbor. We still plan on walking to the Harbor... but not after dark.
What’s going on now in Cincinnati??? Going there in two weeks....my home town! How different it is from 35 years ago where it was fabulous!
Not sure yet when the riots are planned.
Methinks Shelley would require no apologies.
Spot on.
I am shocked at the 64%
Who ?
To #1. Well, gollyyyy!. Dem white folks are getting survival smarts, aren’t they?
Baltimorons got what they voted for so why are they complaining? Proves that the majority of them are dogshit stupid. PERIOD.
You reap what you sow!
After Obama started destroying this country, I was offered an opportunity to attend a business seminar in Chicago (which is like a week-long vacation); I declined on principle. I’ve been to other cities on such trips, but passed on Chicago for no other reason than that detestable POS. Did my little part to impoverish them...
I’ve passed on free Devils tickets in Newark NJ (I used to go to games in the NJ Meadowlands); I wouldn’t spend a dime keeping Newark afloat.
Oddest place to put a hockey team...
Yep.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Our family has dreamed of a Baltimore vacation, but couldn’t ever really afford it. It’ll always be on our bucket list, though.
Baltimore, city where dreams are made. Gee whiz, I wish I was born there.
Have you been there? Is it really as wonderful as people say it is?
That’s OK. You’re pretty safe in that immediate area.
Have fun!
Inner harbor! Yes! How I wish I could have some Phillips’ crabcakes right now.
Good. Live by liberalism, die by liberalism.
