The professional hand-wringers are freaking out over Donald Trump's straight talk while displaying abysmal indifference to the deserved targets of Trump's charges. The United States is incinerating, but all they can think about is Trump's heated rhetoric. Trump is resonating because, as a presidential candidate, he is giving public voice to many of the concerns that have Americans beside themselves.
Some commentators have called attention to these issues for years, but it's different when a candidate does it, especially a Republican candidate.
Democratic candidates have no fear of making controversial statements or even of taking extreme positions, because the liberal media agree with them and will avoid putting them in a bad light. But Republicans know that the media will exploit any opportunity to vilify them.
Republicans also feel pressure from the GOP establishment to pull their punches -- not to say anything that would make them look too conservative, too extreme, too uncaring, too out of step with the popular culture. "Don't sound judgmental. Moderate your words. Be respectful toward President Obama. And above all, don't sound like one of those crazies."
Then Donald Trump comes along and breaks all the rules. He is not beholden to anyone for funding, and he's not a string puppet for any feckless political consultants.

No. I do not think the giant is asleep. I think it died and is now rotting.
bfl... one can pray it is true.
I do.
If It’s dead it didn’t just die the news media , Obama and the democrat party killed the giant
Like you (and a down in the mouth Dennis Miller I saw the other night) I have just about given up.
I hope we're wrong.
DL popped that 10penny nail right on its head!
How could this not be the case?
I have long had the consideration that Americans were very tolerant of other views, they may not agree with, but they’ll give em the benefit of the doubt......longer than many can tolerate..... when its impossible to not see and could indeed be life or death for our great country, that sleeping giant is awoken with a terrible resolve.
Nobama’s arrogant dislike for us and our country, has so peed in the well that no dem will stand a chance at POTUS in 16. Period.
Unless we run a demlite like Jeb.
In before Nick.
I do too. Id like to be wrong about this.
Tonight im wondering if there is a prowler outside. He is afoot if there is. Just a comment of notice.
Will think it is awake when I here friendly fire at the Dinks!!!

it’s kind of funny. some republicans here kept wishing that bush would go “over there” and run as a dem. instead, a dem has come “over here” to run as a republican.
go figure. i guess nature does abhor a vacuum.
Republicans often talk a good game -- good enough, in fact, to win the congressional elections in a landslide in 2010 and 2014 -- but they routinely fail to deliver.Sorry you, like the Republicans, didn't get it David.
Those landslides were NOT FOR Republicans but AGAINST Democrats and Obama...It's all we could do.
Trump/Cruz 2016
“No. I do not think the giant is asleep. I think it died and is now rotting.”
Just what they want you to believe. But politics isn’t static. If the Democrats hadn’t moved so far left in the past 40 years, you’d be right - but they’ve left the middle WIDE OPEN, which is where Trump will draw from, along with holding the base. The middle are white (and a substantial number of Hispanic) voters that don’t care much about social issues, but do care about owning guns, border security, and quotas. They are very angry people and they know that the Democrats HATE THEM. If Trump picks up on all their concerns...he’s got 60% of the country agreeing with him.
It’s up to him now to not veer left, like Walker did the moment he went national.
I thought it was dead until I heard Trump in SC... if you could have seen the crowd and felt the reaction...well, not sure how to say it (you have to see it)... But “something” is happening.
Maybe it’s pining for the fjords.
