ALBANY Gov. Cuomo made it clear Wednesday why he has recently bypassed the Legislature on different issues like raising the minimum wage for fast-food workers.
"I run the government," Cuomo said.
"I am the executive and therefore I use executive power. And thats why the executive is given the power," Cuomo said during an appearance on upstate public radios The Capitol Pressroom.
Cuomo dismissed criticism that his actions represent a major power grab by going around the Legislature.
In addition to creating a board that has recommended raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour for fast food workers, Cuomo recently went it alone in appointing Attorney General Eric Schneiderman as a special prosecutor to investigate cases where unarmed civilians are killed by police.
And he also entered into a signed agreement with Senate Republicans that held off on the implementation of a key provision of his much ballyhooed gun control law. On Wednesday he again denied he walked away from the provision to require background checks on ammunition sales, saying the state will move forward when it develops a workable database.
Cuomo during the legislative session had proposed raising the statewide minimum wage and also sought a criminal justice reform package.
When the Legislature did not act, Cuomo decided to use his executive powers to push changes through without the lawmakers.
I am the executive, he said. I have many powers beyond those which the Legislature passes.
The executive, whether its the President, the mayor or the governor, you run the government, he said. And you have a whole host of powers that are apart and aside from the Legislature.
He has been around obuma to long....gone straight to his head...but New Yorker’s love him....
Rat executives are releasing their inner dictator.
Look for more of this after their example of Captain Midnight.
Another mentally ill democrat who has never heard of a Constitution; either state or federal.
What a total nut case!
The acorn does not fall far from the pious tree.
Cuomo is solidly a Clintonite, he run/screwed up HUDD under the Clinton Admin and he known to be particularly nasty. He had no place at Democrat National Convention, he spoke at a lunch the morning after. There is no love between Obama and Cuomo.
Does he want to be Hillary’s VP? Maybe.
Otherwise, he will follow in his father’s footsteps going down to an embarrassing landslide defeat as New York Gov. but not before another term and much more damage done.
He has a pen and he has a phone.
My, somebody’s full of himself... Another disgusting little politician with delusions of governmental godhood.
Do why do we even bother to vote?
Democrats never think this type of tyranny will be used against them one day
Well with the GOPe's leadership, they are right that there will never be any retribution.

Another “dick” tator wannabe just like his hero Pinocchiobama. Obama set the standard, now every commie the achieves high office will push the boundaries of totalitarianism.
it’s funny how people like him in one breath claim that ‘wages have not kept up with the cost of living increases in this country’ to ‘justify’ raising minimum wages, then in the next breath say “There has been no cost of living increases, and therefore seniors, disabled and veterans will not be getting a 2% cost of living increase”
