Here is part of Juan McCains military performance Ill bet you never heard about:
Did John McCain accidently fire his missile causing the USS Forrestal disaster?
From WIKI Answers:
No, he didnt fire the missile, but was responsible. A missile fired from another plane, striking McCains aircraft and setting it ablaze.
Something made the plane behind McCain fire a rocket, which hit McCains external center fuel tank, and caused a fire. McCain panicked, and dropped two bombs into the fire.
Surviving crewmen of the USS Forrestal and those who investigated the Forrestal fire case reported that McCain deliberately wet-started his A-4E Skyhawk to shake up the guy in the F-4 Phantom behind his plane.
Wet-starts, done either deliberately (the starter motor switch allowed kerosene to pool in the engine and give a wet start) or accidentally, shoot a large flame from the tail of the aircraft.Wet starting was a common practice among young hot-dog pilots.
In McCains case, the wet-startcooked off and launched the M34 Zuni rocket from the rear F-4 that punctured the Skyhawks fuel tank, knocked the M-65 1000 lb bomb off its 500 lb rated mount, and touched off the explosions and massive fire.
What you posted is factually false. As in a lie. If you ever bother to look at how the aircraft were arranged on deck, it is obviously a lie.
I don’t think so. Let’s try a more reliable source shall we? Begin with the top paragraph and get back with us. http://www.navsource.org/archives/02/cv-59/59f-0729.htm Once that missile hit the only thing McCain or others had to do was get out and run! The bomb cook offs? They shouldn’t have done this however other sources say there was a material issue with the bombs onloaded the previous day that had concern of ships C.O. and weapons officer. Read the time sequencing as well. Hundreds of thousands of sailors if not millions by now have see the footage of the actual fire. Me included several times.
No the plane beside McCain was hit McCain's plane was in fact not hit by the missile. I've heard them all including he hit the afterburner and caused it. Look at the plane spotting chart on the link I posted. That chart was not changeable after the incident. Look where the launch came from, the positions of the planes in relation to others, and you'll see it was not his fault.
Actually I have heard about it many times.
But, as a lawyer, and a very Conservative one at that, you’re trained to ask, “Who says so?”
In this case, like every other McCain story, it’s some anonymous person who claims there are unseen “reports” that some anonymous unnamed surviving seaman “says” etc.
The Forrestal fire was a disaster. It was thoroughly investigated by the Navy. Where is the report that says McCain was responsible? As with all the other McCain military service knocks, it doesn’t exist.
I certainly hope no one ever depends on “WIKI Answers” for anything more important than how to spell WIKI.
I hate his politics, but also have too much respect for ANY person who ever laced ‘em up (even a Squid) to let BS like this tarnish the record of anyone who ever served.
That story is bullshit. You’ve obviously never watched the flight deck video. It’s posted on Wikipedia in the Forrestal fire entry.
I don’t know if that is true or not, but it fits his character profile so tightly, that there is the ring of truth to it.
I’ve long wondered about this, but I’ve never been able to nail it down.
If true, this guy ranks up there as one of the worst U. S. Citizens in our nation’s history.
Born with everything going for him a man could want, THIS (his on the record life) is what he did with it.
We were shown 3 movies in those days for damage control.
Forrestal fire
Oriskany fire
Enterpise fire
Each one was blamed on something unproven to this date Forrestal disaster was blamed at time on a guy checking voltage on cabling going to the rockets, and that his analog meter had dead batteries
Never heard of McCain at any time or I just don't remember
I had no idea I was headed for the FID at that time
