And you balanced it with acknowledging there are those who do wear the badge for the right reasons.

I can't even begin to tell you! I grew up in a small, rowdy commercial fishing town where cops had plenty to handle. We had some great cops, one in particular who turned lives around, whose compassion and understanding, stern though he was, helped kids who were headed for trouble, take a better path, and they remember him with gratitude.

Our town also had a cop whose aggressive attitude turned misguided kids toward a bad path -- they lost respect for law enforcement because this clown was focused on establishing himself as "top dog" when he was anything but, most of the time. Right now, in a neighboring town, there are a number of young power-trip cops who hassle kids for stupid crap and instill in them contempt for police, while truly bad types -- there are some BAD bikers in that town -- scare the cops so bad that they leave THOSE bad guys alone. They'll pick on the kid with a hot-rod or motorcycle that's a bit experimental and otherwise harmless, but will leave the really rotten bully bikers (the ones who terrorize folks) alone because they think they might get their asses kicked.

Good cops do good exponentially by instilling respect in people for lawmen. Bad cops do bad exponentially by instilling contempt and fear in people for guys wearing badges and wielding guns. I respect lawmen who see themselves as servant protectors and catchers of bad people who victimize innocents. I have contempt for police who are more interested in establishing their authority over citizens than they are in serving the people in their communities.

But then that isn’t what we were addressing Finny. So you waltz off onto another topic, and give us some big sob story about good vs bad cops.

If you wanted to address this type of issue with me, you had plenty of time to do it. You didn’t bother.

You made it clear you didn’t think a police officer should have the right to defend themselves before a perp fired off a bullet at them.

Your premise is that they should be willing to take a bullet to the brain before firing in self-defense.

That’s horse stuff and you know it.
