Donald Trump smiled in uniform as a cadet at the New York Military Academy then sidestepped the Vietnam draft with college enrollment and a medical deferment for bone spurs a relatively minor injury in his foot....
After leaving the University of Pennsylvania in 1968, he was quickly classified as 1-A, available for service in July 1968 and went for a physical that September.
He was "disqualified" at some point after the physical and got a medical deferment in October 1968, the records show....
Trump biographer Wayne Barrett, author of "Trump: The Deals and the Downfall," ...said Trump likely got special treatment as a young man with money and influential family connections.

With his background, every bit of criticism is deserved.
That is silliness. I am not a Trump supporter - I want Cruz, but it is obviously he misspoke while riled up about that WPS John McCain.
It should be understandable and forgivable, unless he does it again.
baloney
I will wait before jumping on the Trump bandwagon to hear his POV on other issues than Immigration and VA hospitals.
But the fact that he has RINO’s shaking in their shoes is a good thing and they can all learn a lesson, something McCain has yet to do.
Look at that wimp Tom O’Malley - he lost any chance of being elected by apologizing for saying “All lives matter” even though many Dems will overlook it, many Indy’s wont.
Politics is hardball. It’s why the media engaged in character assassination of Sarah Palin, because she didn’t base her opinions on focus groups and polls.
And neither does Trump.
This is backlash against years of PC BS
“Obviously, according to Behind Liberal Lines, the left-wing media, and the GOP Jeb Bush loving establishment, your husband is a traitor.”
That is kind of a stretch, isn’t it? My observation is that Trump’s military service is equal to most of the candidates running now or who ran in the last election. Perry and Graham have more military service than the rest of the field. I do not think that makes them great candidates, do you?
No. He registered for the draft in 1971, but was never called. By then, the draw-down was underway in Viet Nam.
I was just noticing the hair...same style, even on that baby face.
Same here, and they no longer amuse me either.
We need our country to stand up. Shut down the boarder, ship illegals back by the train car load, pass amendment to allow states to deport, term limit or have away to vote out Supreme Court Injustices, and term limit Senators and Representatives.
We need it now.

Excerpt: Sports that include a lot of running can also speed up the formation of bone spurs because the legs and feet hit the ground with a lot of force. It should also be no surprise that shoulders are common sites for bone spurs because of the lifting and moving that’s done. In fact, that’s why from time to time, you’ll hear about a baseball pitcher with a rotator cuff issue from overuse or injury.
I know one thing. If Trump was POTUS in
time of conflict and I had a son or daughter
in the military then I would constantly be
in the state of cringe at the thought of
capture.
Would you trust 0bama...or maybe McStain...more?
Well, let me ask you.. what’s your impression of Trump’s stance on property rights? Are you OK with his support for the Kelo decision? How about his waffling on illegals? Is his support for “universal health care” acceptable? Do you not find his chumminess with the Clintons and his monetary support to Hillary’s Senatorial campaigns just a bit incongruous with his claims to being a “conservative?”
Are you telling me, after all that, you find Trump trustworthy?
From your lips...

I gotta say I get a little tired of hearing this described this way.
My Dad didn’t get drafted to go to Korea because he was in college. He was at the University of Cincinnati earning a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked his way through college, parents weren’t rich, and he damn sure wasn’t a coward.
The insinuation that anyone who got a draft deferment because they were enrolled in college was either;
a) A draft dodger, or
b) Beneficial of a rich daddy’s influence is
Absolute 100% BS.
Billy boy flat out dodged the draft after getting a draft notice and Barry didn’t even register for the draft until 2008. Each went on to win two presidential elections. So, if anything, Trump’s draft deferments and lack of military experience may serve as resume enhancers, given the sterling successes achieved by Billy and Barry.
I do really think he could do a worse job than any **Republican** president we have ever had. And possibly worse than some Democrats.
Lots of wealthy kids got special treatment. The senators’ sons come to mind.
In my neck of the woods all the farmers’ sons got farm deferments. I was 1A, not A1 as the writer put it, so I volunteered for the Navy. I didn’t want to wear Army green. I thought bell bottoms looked cooler. After I got in I learned they’re really “stove pipe” legs.
Looks like he started working on that comb over early.
Audie Murphy was turned down by every branch of the military before he finally got in the army at age 17.
