Not a McCain fan but “merely doing one’s duty” when doing that duty means enduring immense suffering, rather than taking the is a form of heroism.

Of course it might not be quite as heroic as avoiding service with 5 deferments.

McCain did his duty under extremely brutal circumstances. That is commendable but it is not heroism as it was not premeditated.

If you want to know who a true hero is, look to his Commanding Officer James Stockdale.

To equate McCain’s acts with those of Stockdale’s is to render Stockdale’s Congressional Medal of Honor as a meaningless award.

Student deferments were standard for ALL male college students in good academic standing around the same age as Trump. No favoritism nor bribery involved. The draft applied to those who ended their high school career with no future education. The medical deferment was for a bone spur on his foot.

McCain committed to the service when he accepted his appointment to Annapolis.

Willard got student deferments plus deferments for his religion..

During Nam he spent 2 1/2 years in France living in a mansion and driving a top-of-the-line Citroen..

Willard was at least a TWO TIME draft dodger and yet you had no qualms about voting for him in 2012...
