What the MSM says Trump said and what Trump actually said. BTW, is any of this relevant to anything substantively important to the future of our country? No, except for the fact the MSM continues to lie with edited half-truths.
Remember, this was a staged interview and the two were arguing and talking over each other during some of this.
What the Washington Post reported:
Headline: “Trump slams McCain for being captured in Vietnam...”
Lead paragraph: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump slammed Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a decorated Vietnam War veteran, on Saturday by saying McCain was not a war hero because he was captured by the North Vietnamese [emphasis added].
What actually happended:
Frank Luntz was leading the Q&A session
Luntz: Hes a war hero...
Trump: “He hit me...”
Luntz: Hes a war hero...
Trump: Hes not...a war hero.
Luntz: Hes a war hero.
Trump: Hes a war hero because he was captured. I like people that werent captured, okay? I hate to tell you.
Luntz: inaudible
Trump: Hes a war hero because he was captured, okay? You can have and I believe perhaps hes a war hero, but right now, he said some very bad things about a lot of people. So, what I said is, John McCain, I disagree with him, that these people arent crazy.

A tempest in a teapot. McCain and Trump are fighting each other. So what else is new. Get to the substantive issues. The Left NEVER wants to get to the substantive issues. Meanwhile, IMO, Trump should not back down becasue he didn’t do anything wrong, but he should know that he’s going to need a full-body asbestos suit to weather the firestorms from the Left (and from the Right, who here, I think are wrong).
How come McCain gets a free pass for his terrible record as a Senator because he was a POW? Time to stop the BS. Don’t back down to the bullies Trump.
Here is repost of another good post from CPE:
#1: Re; your McCain comment: Never make a public comment that does not bring you benefit.
#2: Every public comment will be approved by some, disliked by others. Work to increase the % of the former, decrease % of the latter. Never play for a tie, or worse, a loss. You are smart enough to know which is which before you speak.
#3. In todays electronic age, every comment is public. Just ask Romney, Jesse Jackson (Wre going to cut the nuts....) or even fumduck Obama (Please tell Vladimir...)
#4; Just because its true, you dont have to say it. Just because John McCain is not a great War Hero for his time spent in captivity, the truth of the comment did not make the comment beneficial to you.
#5: When you attack personally, you give those attacked the ability to respond personally. If McCain now said, Does Trumps combover hide a hole in his head where all the brains flowed out no one would blame him. Yesterday such a comment by McCain would have been thought of as petty. Today, it would be a fair shot. Keep your comments about opponents to their policies, actions, demonstrable failures, not the people themselves.... (and why make the small fry like John McCain an opponent?) Youll have enough real, meaningful enemies. Why add to them?
Praise a person and their actions.
Criticize only their actions.
#6; Never forget Rule #1 Every national election is decided by the 8-12 % middle of the roaders. Right or wrong, they like McCain. Whether they agree with his policies or not. the 8-12 % think he at least is a nice guy. Why take that shot when there was no gain in it for you?
