Neither of Bush's two draft-age sons went to Vietnam, and one, Jeb, considered filing for conscientious-objector status to avoid the war, according to Barbara Bush.

She said in an interview with United Press International in 1984 that her husband told Jeb, "Whatever you decide . . . I will back you 100 percent." Jeb eventually decided to submit to the draft, she said.

Campaign spokeswoman Alixe Glen said Jeb Bush registered for the draft and received lottery number 26 at the end of 1971 or early 1972. But he was never called because the war was de-escalating then.

I’ve been keeping track for almost a month.

Thus far (his comments today included) Trump has said...

ZERO

Things wrong. Nothing. He has nailed every single point.

Just saying.

McCain is no friend of POWs even if he was one...

The War Secrets Sen. John McCain Hides
Former POW Fights Public Access to POW/MIA Files - Sydney Schanberg

Hurdles and limitations

Finally, in addition to these hurdles and limitations, the McCain act does not specifically order the declassification of the information. Further, it provides the Defense Department with other justifications for withholding documents. One such clause says that if the information “may compromise the safety of any United States personnel … who remain not accounted for but who may still be alive in captivity, then the Secretary [of Defense] may withhold that record or other information from the disclosure otherwise required by this section.”

Boiled down, the preceding paragraph means that the Defense Department is not obligated to tell the public about prisoners believed alive in captivity and what efforts are being made to rescue them. It only has to notify the White House and the intelligence committees in the Senate and House. The committees are forbidden under law from releasing such information.

McCain goes further to hurt future POWs...

Another bill gutted in 1996

And then there is the Missing Service Personnel Act, which McCain succeeded in gutting in 1996. A year before, the act had been strengthened, with bipartisan support, to compel the Pentagon to deploy more resources with greater speed to locate and rescue missing men. The measure imposed strict reporting requirements.

McCain amended the heart out of the statute. For example, the 1995 version required a unit commander to report to his theater commander within two days that a person was missing and describe what rescue and recovery efforts were underway. The McCain amendments allowed 10 days to pass before a report had to be made.

And neither of these corrupt individuals from D.C. give a damn their corrupt associate calling millions of concerned Americans supporting Trump, "Crazies."

Ya know why? Because those in D.C. see millions of Americans as being the enemy.

That's the ugly truth.

Connecticut liberals aren’t born with testicular fortitude.
Their PR agents and/or parents deflect questions of manhood.

Good. When all are in place against him Trump will drop the other shoe. Their numbers will continue to fall

I watched the video one time. Trump has a way of saying one thing, then his brain processes it and he quickly says the opposite. I am pretty sure Trump said McCain is hero... in some way.

Once again, much ado about nothing. I would like to see a Cruz-Walker or Walker-Cruz ticket, but I sure hate this tendency we have to destroy our candidates (even the ones we are not crazy about) because of some mis-speak, and elect or re-elect a perfectly terrible candidate.

McCain is scum.

Anyone that would be upset by what Trump said about him would never vote for Trump anyway.

With all these chicken hawks attacking Trump for what he said about McCain...Trump is going to come out of this ok. The hipocracy of all these repubs who never served being so upset leaves a bigger stink.

I was enrolled in ROTC just a couple years later. That summer I worked as a recruiter and they promised to pay me for every person I could set an appointment with and talk to, whether they joined or not. The results were dismal, to put it mildly.

That same fall, they called us in, told us the government needed to downsize ROTC big time and that if we signed a wavier (no veteran's bennies and the like), we could check out with no further service obligation and no need to pay back the partial tuition we'd received for our service. About 90% of us took the bait.

Timing is everything.

McCain is a hero to all the shipyard workers who got all that overtime for rebuilding the Forrestal after John McCain damn near sunk the ship with his crash landing and fire.

Enough with the overuse of "hero" - it diminishes the real heroes who are mostly dead from jumping on grenades and storming enemy positions with a .45 and 3 rounds left in it - mostly dead guys.

Trump is correct again

For men born in 1952 ( like myself ) , the highest lottery number called for this group was 95 . Mine was 140 . For men born in 1953 ( like Jeb ) the lottery was conducted for men who would have been called in 1973; however, no new draft orders were issued after 1972 .

Clever. The Donald has found a quick way to trim the bloated Republican field.

Everyone who agrees that McCain has ridden this “war hero” pony long enough is mentally dropping Perry, Bush and now Rubio from consideration.

The Donald is a stalking horse, and a damned good one at that.

The political hacks are being exposed for what they are.
