AUSTIN Gov. Greg Abbott says he is reluctantly asking Texas Military Forces to arm soldiers at their home bases after Thursdays attacks at military sites in Tennessee that killed four Marines and one sailor.
Abbott said in a release Saturday that he will authorize Adjutant General John Nichols of the Texas National Guard to arm National Guard personnel at military facilities across Texas. Abbotts move followed shootings on two military facilities in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Other states also have active SDFs.
Not all.

All can, some simply choose not to...
correct, the rifle magazines were unloaded. If the soldier’s were MPs the pistol mags had bullets in them. an M16 is not the weapon you want to set off in a confined area with innocents down range of a tango. I was in the 1149th MP company 1998 to 2002 so take that to mean I had personal experience in this matter.
See this all sounds good, means well...
But when it is recruiters, operating outside the security procedures at most military, if not all other government facilities, this Band-Aid means nothing...
Unless they add security, or allow one or more of the recruiter at these store fronts to arm themselves, while they are on the job...
Meaningless...
Arming your Guard troops is like giving a fire extinguisher to a fireman while he they are still in the station...
Could be handy if a notorious torch rushes in, bellowing “Allahuh Akhbar!”
