Seeking tighter controls over firearm purchases, the Obama administration is pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs, a move that could affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others.
The push is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws regulating who gets reported to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, which is used to prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the country illegally and others.
A potentially large group within Social Security are people who, in the language of federal gun laws, are unable to manage their own affairs due to "marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease."

Precisely.
And the RINO-controlled Congress will do..................................................................... nothing.
People may chose to assign a power of attorney for reasons other than deminished mental capacity. Consider operations and/or treatments that carry significant risk or extended rehabilitation periods.
Otherwise... We know they have the new Obamacare questionnaires, among those questions is gun ownership. Did anyone really think that was simply for the sake of data collection?
I do remember Paradisios.
Though to be honest, after my first year in Bamberg drinking like there is no tomorrow, I spent most of my spare time traveling Germany or saving my paycheck for the next trip.
a move that could affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others.
I’m torn by this honestly......he is basically calling out his supporters who are the ones on silly disability social security. However, if looking strictly at 2nd Amendment....this is BS and should not be done.
So, that means anyone needing taxpayer assistance as well (unable/unwilling to manage their own affairs they come hat in hand)??
If so, I presume there would be a *SURGE* in turn-ins in the inner-cities, eh?
Notice how the real criminals are never the target?
Effing POS as is anyone who supports him.
The primary issues is that a VA determination of PTSD could be sufficient to cause a veteran to loose their gun rights under Title I of the GCA, specifically 18 USC 922(g)(4)
What I've been able to piece together so far is that a veteran recieves benefits from VA, either service related due to PTSD or physical injury or an recieviing VA Aid and Attendance due to impoverishment. VA determines, following assessment of the veteran, that he or she is not mentally capable of handling their finacial affairs, including VA benefits. They then appoint a " fiduciary" generally a family member to receive the benefits and use them for the benefit of the veteran. This "incapacity" determination is reported to BATFE (not sure of the mechanics), BATFE deems the veteran to be a prohibited person under 18 USC 922(g)(4), notifies the FBI who then updates NICS to indicatet that person is prohibited. Note that this determination is made by the VA without a judge. Any other person would at least have the opportunity to present a case to a judge preserving their due process rights, apparently not veterans.
So now this administrastion has figured out that if they can do this for veterans why not SSI recipeients? What about EBT card holders? Federal retirees? How many American's will loose their right to due process?
I have no information that BATFE has confiscated firearms already possessed by a veteran but my colleagues and I are actively looking for such cases. If you hear of one, please let me know off list.
Although you can't prevent this determination and loss of gun rights, you can make sure that a fiduciary YOU trust takes care of your guns. Create a gun trust that will allow YOUR fiduciary to manage YOUR guns not one that VA appoints. DO NOT USE an NFA only gun trust! Hire a competent estate planning attorney that is experienced with gun trusts.

We’ve got to keep guns away from all those crazy seniors who are gunning down people in our inner cities. /sarc
Hmmm..arent there a lot of takers/Fakers on SSDI? Would this affect them?
I’m trying to figure this out. Are old people running around shooting at people with guns? Hmmmm, I didn’t think so.
It would make more sense to say no one on welfare can get guns and if while on welfare, you or someone in your family goes to jail for using a gun in a crime, the family loses their welfare check permanently.
I guarantee you’d see some baby mammas out there running up and down the street beating the rear ends off some of these boys.
lol.....I SURRENDER
Sorry, we could have stopped Obama in 2012, but many People insisted that the Guy running against him was much worse so they stayed home.
Oh yeah, he was a successful Business and a Mormon. Can’t have anyone like that in the White House when we can have the Mulatto Marxist running things.
You make your Bed, you lie in it. The Republic is no more.
Has Obama noticed the elderly aren’t shooting each other in Chicago every weekend?
I disagree. It is smart. They are disarming those most likely to be a potential problem *for the left* Why fight your enemy if you can disarm him first?
This is not only an idea to get around the Second Amendment, but if you research a lot of black on white crime, it is the senior citizens that are getting beaten, sometimes to death, by Negro thugs.
Now, this mulatto Queer-In-Charge is desirous to place ALL those of retirement age into a status of sheep among the wolves, literally. Just another nice, quiet, compasionate way a la Soviets to rid the country of those who do not and cannot work for the good of the State.
The 65+ numbers on this chart by the FBI show why nobama and his minions are so anxious to take away the guns.
If I'm figuring this correctly, Seniors with guns account for 1.27% of US murders. Entirely unacceptable. If just one of these murders can be stopped by taking away a Senior's gun...
