It’s clear that much of Trump’s appeal is that he’s got some balls. He makes his points, damn the torpedoes and doesn’t back down when the media and establishment types come down on him full force. To the contrary, he comes back at them with both barrels. Real Americans respect this. We are so tired of seeing conservatives (or, rather, establishment RINOS) back down at the slightest criticism and go slinking away apologizing for pointing out the obvious. I don’t agree with Trump on everything, I don’t really trust him, I know he’s only in it for himself but it’s damn refreshing to see someone get in there and act like a man in facing down the establishment.

I know he (Trump) is only in it for himself

Assume that you're correct. Isn't Trump a bit like the airline pilot who only cares about his own life, but you're sure glad he does because he'll land the plane safely.

If Trump's only in it for brand enhancement, he succeeds the most the more positive things he does for the US. So he brings us along for the ride.

FWIW, I suspect that isn't the case. When he first got in, it might have been a gimmick. But then the media and his former allies went full assault, against Trump, his businesses, coordinated lies about what he said, and even punishing the women who worked so hard to get to Miss USA. They made it personal, and Trump either had to fight back or take a life of being ridiculed and diminished by his detractors.

So, now, if my thinking is valid, it's very real. Trump would like to win it and destroy anyone and everyone who is unfair or insulting to him. And, if Trump becomes President, he'll want to be an outrageously excellent one.
