Police are searching for a cobra that is believed to have bitten an 18-year-old man who died Tuesday evening.
Police believe Grant Thompson, 18, owned a monocled cobra and that it bit him in his car while at the parking lot of a Lowes at 13000 North Interstate 35. Thompson died after going into cardiac arrest, medics have said.
Police said it is possible that the snake is still in the area and are asking anyone with information about the animal to call police at 512-974-5210. Police described the cobra as black with a distinctive circle on its back and a tan underbelly.
Police urged people not to approach the snake, which is considered highly aggressive, and call 911 immediately if they spot it.
According to social media posts and a Temple Daily Telegram article from March, Thompson was a passionate animal lover who worked at Fish Bowl Pet Express in Temple and would show exotic animals to children as part of his job. His mother had taken him to Fish Bowl Pet Express since he was a baby and, after she bought the business in 2013, Thompson volunteered to work there before becoming a staff member, posts on Facebook said.

:25 p.m. update: Austin police and Animal Control found no venomous animals inside the truck of a man who died from a possible snakebite on Tuesday.
At least it is just Austin...
Was it female? Some snakes can reproduce many times from one “episode”.
Ohhh Salamander...
“It strikes me as seriously dumb to keep a venomous snake.”
as a pet.
Even more dumb to kiss them ...
We had a cobra get loose in our area. They had teams of people trying to find this snake. They never found it. I doubt they find this one either.
?
Carroll Shelby is spinning in his grave!
Dr. Mindbender is on the loose? He’s the only monocled Cobra I know....
I hate it when that happens.
Keeping venomous snakes is for experienced serious herpetologists, not amateur juvenile showmen. If you are crazy enough to keep one, you should have anti-venin specific to that snake available and be sure you are not alergic to horses. And you sure as hell should not be taking them on road trips.
Feel sorry for the guy, the snake, and anyone it might encounter.
I thought it bit him on the wrist?
Cobra violence. Where’s the momunists? Mothers Opposing Cobra Killings=MOCKers. Besides, why just pick on cobras? There are other snakes that can kill you running loose in our neighborhoods.
Who put the cobra in the car at Lowe’s.?.
pissed off girl, boy(husband/wife) friend!...
Columbo answer the curtesy phone..
