--snip-- For Temple, which is in the heart of North Philadelphia, a section of the city where most students are minorities who live in poverty, the decision to go test-optional could prove key. Many students from Philadelphia's neighborhood high schools are finishing at the top of their class but have SAT scores in the 800s, putting them at a disadvantage.
"We cannot ignore the mounting evidence that standardized test scores inject socio-economic bias into the admissions and financial-aid equations," Hai-Lung Dai, Temple's provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, said last summer in announcing the change.

Top of the class with an 800 SAT?
There’s nothing quite like a quality public education.
“We cannot ignore the mounting evidence that standardized test scores inject socio-economic bias into the admissions and financial-aid equations”
They are choosing to ignore that the “bias” is basic literacy; the top of high school classes in this area would basically be a third grade education in Honkytown.
The Owl will no longer be the symbol of wisdom.

Can they tie their shoes..?
SAT 800 — ARE YOU KIDDING ME...?!?!
Morris Brown College in Atlanta (in Chapter 11, lost its accreditation) may still be functioning. It used to be known as “Mo Bro”. Once it stops using the moniker, it can be transferred to Temple.
“Many students from Philadelphia’s neighborhood high schools are finishing at the top of their class but have SAT scores in the 800s, putting them at a disadvantage.”
UH?!
You get 800 for just spelling your rame right.
For years, critics have called the SAT an unreliable predictor of college readiness that discriminates against minority students and those from low-income families.
So, they are accepting essays in lieu of SAT/ACT scores. But no one would fake an essay, right? [/s/s]
Oh hell, just give every HS graduate a BA and be done with it.
Cosby’s alma mater.
We don't care HOW stupid they are...
Might that score be only for two sections (math and critical reading)?
Many colleges don’t consider all three sections. They just look at math and critical reading.
If so, it’s still below the average score of 1000 for two sections.
But, if that score is for all three sections, it’s really low.
To be fair, with some of the names the babymommas inflicted on these kids, that is a significant challenge...
“Minority applicants flock to Temple after it dropped test requirement”
Minority?? I’m willing to go out on a limb and bet that they don’t mean Asians.
Minorities should be absolutely raising hell about the poor education being given to their children.
Post of the evening!
