Well, I do agree with you now on the Confederate Battle Flag. I mean enough is enough! Any Republican wanting it taken down or removed is a Republican I’ll never vote for.

Yes, once it stood for democratic hatred. It was democrats who hoisted it in defiance of blacks back in the 1950’s and 60’s. Yes it was. NO Republicans called for it to wave for THOSE particular reasons.

Yet this flag WAS. It is part and parcel of Southern Heritage so it cannot be misconstrued as the democrats once used it.

We have to be SMART enough to say—If you’re concerned that the Confederate Battle Flag is anti-black then thank the democrats—Fritz Hollins, Lextor Maddox, Bull Conner, George Wallace; the whole bunch of staunch racist democrats. But nowadays that is no longer what that flag stands for. It is a flag many, many white Southerners are proud of, not to suppress black people’s civil rights, but as the heritage, tragic though it may be, that CANNOT be forgotten. Many wear it as a symbol of Rebellion—not against blacks, but of high-minded government and authority. You on the Left applaud the establishment-defying spirit of college youth when they do so; why disparage ours?

Now, that is my evolved opinion of the Confederate Battle Flag issue. I am for the flag, but also for standing up to those who use it as an anti-black symbol.

But those folks are GONE. The Left want you to think that we who still support that flag do so for the same racist reasons those democrats did.

HOWEVER, my point is no one is doing that anymore since we drove the democrats out of power down here. They simply did not change parties, as elitist Liberals like to say—but racist democratism was defeated and replaced with pro-American, happy to live in racial equality, conservative Reagan Republicanism.

Brilliant post AB.

In the end the Confederate flag is just that a flag. It is full of symbolism and means different things to different people. Sort of like the American flag. Full of symbolism meaning different things to different people. Neither should be savaged or removed but both respected.
