Devon Staples, 22, was killed in a bizarre incident that took place in a backyard as Staples and his friends were firing off fireworks.
Investigators said Staples had placed the fireworks mortar tube on top of his head and set it off. The explosion caused a fatal head injury and he died instantly.
Police said Staples had been drinking with friends at one of their homes on South Street

In WWII, the Japanese had a rifled grenade launcher that was mistranslated as “Knee Mortar”. US troops firing the captured weapon by bracing it on the thigh, rather than the ground, ended up breaking said bone.

I don’t know if that’s accurate to say it sounds good in theory. Theory would say that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This is sadly another data point.

Staples had placed the fireworks mortar tube on top of his head and set it offThe fireworks manufacturer is liable because they did not print a warning in English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic and Spanish on the tube not to do this. Plus no warning not to mix demon rum (alcohol) with fireworks.
