Kathryn Steinle had just sent her mother a quintessential San Francisco picture a photo of her, her father and a family friend on the scenic waterfront of the Embarcadero.
But five minutes later, with her fathers arm around her shoulder, the 32-year-old Pleasanton native suddenly collapsed on Pier 14 just south of the Ferry Building. It was 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and she had been struck in the chest by a bullet.

“The suspect was identified as Francisco Sanchez, who is approximately 45 and whose last known address was in Texas. He spoke with homicide inspectors and was later jailed on suspicion of murder, officials said.
Sanchez was on probation, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak, who wouldnt elaborate.”
Seems random to me...
I notice that the San Fran papers refuses to name the shooter or the race of the shooter. When the shooting happened in S, Carolina, these same people in the press had no problem in naming and telling everyone the race of the killer.
I was born there (SF) but I’ve stayed out of SF for ten years or more.
Nothing possibly good can happen to you there.
In this case, the official narrative seems authentic.
That was my point. Hispanic kills white and it is a “random” killing. White kills anyone of any other race and it is a racist killing.
How could this happen in a State like California where it is hard to own a weapon?
Thanks artichokegrower.
Drifter? Or Dreamer?
Earlier Thursday, two television news crews reporting on the killing were mugged at the scene, with a masked gunman pistol-whipping a camera operator. The robber took cameras from KNTV and KTVU before he jumped into a black BMW and fled.
It sounds like the citizens need to arm up and go down to this area and take care of business.
Arm up. The voters of San Francisco voted to ban guns in 2004 or so. They are insane. They are liberals and they are insane.
Hispanic is a language group, not a race. Mexicans of Spanish decent are white Europeans.
Is random better? Or is that a random question?
So weird, cuz that area is....not super bad, no way.
Wow.
As recently as 3 or 4 years ago I’d skate in some really bad areas at night.
You know what they do?
They yell out they’ll give you a BJ. I mean they totally SCREAM it, all the way down the street.
I think they’re drug addicts, or something.
Ban the Confederate flag!

Called it!
This guy is another allstar member of the sanctuary city team of superstars along side Edwin Ramos and his compatriots.
P.S. Oh nice SFGATE disabled my original comment because the left has no room for truth or reality.
I’ve been visiting SFO since 1966, most recently in 2013.
The whole place is bad, in the sense that there are too many crazy and chaotic people, with a system to move them around. Yes, there are “good” places, but there are no safe places, not any more.
died for what bammy?...died for what?
