As a Corpsman on the Surgical Ward at USNH Quantico a lifetime ago several of my patients were under treatment for Pilonidal Cyst. A disgusting lesion that, as far as I am aware, results from nothing more than poor hygiene. In the decades that have ensued since my days as a Ward Corpsman, I have never again heard of Pilonidal Cyst until your post.
Thank you - you have described Takei with precision.

Yup! Poor hygiene, or sweating a lot without being able to clean up will cause it. There are pretty good antibiotic creams made today that can cure the problem without surgery. Not always, but often. Creams and soaking in a tub or sitz bath can help them drain so that the cream can be effective. Riding lawn mowers are a big cause!

Didn’t they call it “jeep ass” or something like that, I know 2 people, a guy and a girl, not related, that had to have surgical treatment for polinoidal cysts when they were in their teens.
