Beaver hats were very popular in the 18th Century & trappers did a brisk trade in beaver pelts.

Best known wearer of a beaver hat was Benjamin Franklin. Wore it while ambassador to France to emphasize his American-ness to the Europeans.

Bammie wouldn’t have known this in a gazillion years.
