TAMPA Health officials in Hillsborough County are keeping a close watch on the rising number of HIV/AIDS cases in the area.
The Florida Department of Health reported 272 new cases of the human immunodeficiency virus in Hillsborough County in 2012. In 2013, that number jumped to 347, and in 2014 it jumped again to 445.
Normally, an increase over one year isnt a cause for alarm among health officials because it could just be a blip, experts said. But this year-over-year spike in the number of new cases has them concerned.
Its being very closely monitored, said Lisa Nugent, planning administrator with the nonprofit Ryan White Care Council of West Central Florida.
More people undergoing tests could explain the rise in reported cases, officials said.
On Friday, the Hillsborough County branch of the Florida Health Department marked National HIV Testing Day by opening its doors and offering free screenings for HIV, chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea.

What could possibly account for such a huge increase in the "gay disease"?

Whatever diseases two consenting adults give to each other is none of my business. ;)

Yeah sure, that’s the ticket.
Well, now that they can get married in churches and courthouses instead of highway truck stops and bathhouses, this situation will no doubt improve greatly.

Until you need a couple pints of blood in the emergency room.
At the rate we're going,it'll soon be a hate crime if we refuse to take it!
The information is based on “reported” . . . . who really knows the true headcount. If you had the unfortunate disease, would you really want it documented?
Bug chasers?
I never knew that rainbows spread nasty diseases. That DNA stuff is racis’.
Yep we have been told that if only homosexuals could get married then AIDS and other sexually transmitted conditions would sharply decrease. Homosexuals would settle down they would not be promiscuous etc if only they can get married.
The only solution is to ban rainbow flags!
Tell Walmart! Tell Amazon! Tell ebay!
Great I live in Tampa.....
What a bunch of rectums...
It’s all because Barrie Obama’s Surgeon General is uncomfortable talking about butt sex, right?
That’s what they said when there was AIDS under Reagan.
Maybe they should investigate public funded organizations that encourage those with AIDS to spread it around.
That should be a crime, I think
They wouldn’t molest children in church if only they could “mary”.
“It could be that they know new medical advances mean testing positive for HIV is no longer a death sentence and they arent as careful, Acosta said.”
That’s certainly been a disturbing trend among younger gay men. There was an article posted at FR some years back that had a quote from some older gay activist, talking about the complete lack of fear young gays have about HIV/AIDS. I’ll never forget the part where the activist said “I have young gay men telling me ‘Oh well, if I get infected, I’ll just go on the (drug) cocktail.”
The CDC’s own numbers show that gay/bi men under 25 account for nearly 70% of new HIV infections each year. That’s a staggering figure, especially when you consider gay men of all ages account for less than 2% of the U.S. population.
That is especially staggering considering the resurgence in heroin.
When arguing with some homo online a year or so ago that claimed normal (he did not use "normal") people get the same diseases homos do, I dug up a CDC report that said homos account for 65% of new hepatitis cases each year. The homo did not answer when I asked just what was if about homos that make them so susceptible to the hep.
Seems to me that they have a constitutional right to spread AIDS to each other...
