Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has said that he supports Puerto Rico filing for bankruptcy in the face of the massive debt the Caribbean island is facing.
When Bush visited Puerto Rico, which is a U.S. territory, on a campaign stop in April, he told a crowd that the public agencies in Puerto Rico should be able to seek bankruptcy under Chapter 9, according to the Puerto Rico Report.

Even stopped clocks are right twice a day. If PR doesn’t have the money, and it sounds like they don’t, then bankruptcy should be an available option. The bond market is like anything else... Caveat emptor. Maybe people will demand higher yields in exchange for lending money to profligate states and cities to compensate for the risk.

1. Force Puerto Rico to be its own country.
2. Wait for Puerto Rico to go Communist and threaten the security of the US
3. Go to war with Puerto Rico
4. Win war and allow Puerto Rico to sue for reparations
Basically the mouse that roared starring Topo Gigio.

This is kinda what happens when politicians promise things they really can’t pay for. Could it be this is also taking place at the Federal level?

If I recall correctly, some 70% of Puerto Ricans are on (US taxpayer funded) welfare.
