Texas conservative Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton calls the Supreme Court decision giving same-sex couples the right to marry a lawless ruling and says state workers can cite their religious objections in denying marriage licenses.
He warned in a statement Sunday that any clerk, justice of the peace or other administrator who declines to issue a license to a same-sex couple could face litigation or a fine.
But in the nonbinding legal opinion, Paxton says numerous lawyers stand ready to defend, free of charge, any public official refusing to grant one.

Hopefully more AGs join him on this.
They can use Obama’s precedent of ignoring laws as well as court orders.
It’s time for a couple of Governors to tell SCOTUS to kiss their collective asses.

And the perv lawsuits increase rather than decrease.
Has the civil war begun???
Hopefully more AGs join him on this.

Damned right!
The same with Nativity Scenes and Federal buildings being lit up with gay colors.
One day Obama will RETURN to Hell where he belongs.
If they had any real backbone they’d be talking nullification.
Well of course. The USSCT ruled on only the cases before them. If they affirm or reverse lower courts (not sure how many cases they “reviewed”) these mandates have to first be put in final written form and issued to lower courts (all federal district courts of appeal probably). Then that court has to react and remand or whatever to district level. Then federal district court has to write up orders. There is NO WAY a local marriage license clerk should be able to issue a freaking marriage license because of some newspaper or TV headline that Gay marriages are now legal!
Also, the local Courts must be able to read the full opinions and decipher it (what Judges are SUPPOSED to do) before they do anything else.
Well THIS will upset some Freepers that want to ‘move on’...
Love how the AP worked in “Conservative Republican” in the first line. Never seem to mention Liberal Democrat when applicable
Well, “liberal Democrat” is a normal person in AssPress dogma.

Where’s Governor Walker on this? I heard Jindal say no licenses will be issued in LA for now, has Walker done the same in WI?
I guess we won’t be lighting up the Alamo with rainbow colors.
Unfortunately very few, if any, will.
The SCOTUS decision does not apply to the states! A mandate that gay-marriage licenses be issued “by the States” clearly means those licenses shall be issued by the Federal Government (a precedent set by last week’s ObamaCare decision).
Good point. Real good point.

Nope.
