Parking your car by backing it into your driveway could soon be illegal in Jacksonville, Florida

The city council in Jacksonville, Florida, has taken up a proposal that, if approved, would make it illegal for residents to park their cars in any manner that prevents law enforcement from seeing their rear license plates from the street.

For those who live in single-family homes with off-street parking, such a law would make backing into the driveway to park an illegal act. Florida is among a handful of states that don’t require car owners to display license plates at the front of their cars.

The proposed local bill would also require people who use car covers to figure out a way to make the license plates of covered cars similarly visible.

I hate it when people back into parking spaces.

I don't really hate it, but I find it amusing when people spend more time backing in, presumably to have a quick exit later, and they spend much more time backing in than they would if they simply backed out when they leave.

The thing I really hate is people who drive rhe wrong way in direction-specific parking lots.

This is a revenue generation scheme. Nothing more.
And if it’s on private property, they can’t do squat.

So they can write a ticket for violation of registration.

Lazy ass people being paid by tax money.

Just added Floriduh to my no visit and no living list.

Fully enclosed would mean pulling front first into a carport would be illegal. If you leave your garage door up, you’re in violation.

And just who determines if your car tarp is in “good” condition and will you be arrested if a spider builds a web under it?

Who determines what outside items are valuable v. junk?

It reads like refrigerators built into outdoor grill areas on the back porch are also illegals because you’re not “attending” them 24/7.

Heaven forbid if the kids take their inside toys outside.

So much for saving the environment if you are no longer allowed to hang your laundry on clotheslines in the back yard.

drive the wrong way in direction-specific parking lots.

Yes, that's dangerous.

In many jurisdictions it is illegal to back out of your driveway.

There is no such thing as private property until it’s property tax time.

Yep, this is just so police driving down the street can do “revenue enforcement” with license plate scanners. Follow the money.

I back in as quickly as most people drive in nose first, with or without the backup camera on one of my vehicles. I always back in because it’s much safer to pull out nose first than tail first, when I don’t know what might be coming.

I can’t park my truck if I don’t back it into the spot.

Park at the far end of the parking lot. You can get more exercise and less door dings.

I usually do: I’m driving a 15-passenger van, and I want room to maneuver.

I back in during the summer but I like to tuck the nose up close to the garage during the winter.

I hate to break it to the JBTs and the jackboot lickers in the press who wrote this, but cars on private property don’t even need license plates. You need the plates on the public road.

You have the right to do what you like. I’ll just grumble quietly to myself if you’re doing it in front of me, but that doesn’t harm you, as far as I know.

Some, but I’m not necessarily around when they’re parking.

People who park in their GARAGE will be very disappointed!

I always back into my garage.
