Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell guaranteed a vote on a bill imposing a federal ban on abortions after 20 weeks of gestation, telling a conservative crowd in Washington that a vote on the divisive legislation would be good news for our entire country.
Though the bill passed the House earlier this year after a row over rape-reporting requirements in the legislation, the Senates version from Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is a long-shot to pass the Senates 60-vote threshold. Several moderate Republicans like Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois and Susan Collins of Maine are likely to oppose the legislation, and only a handful of centrist Democrats would back McConnell.

That happened a log time ago.
Good point ... To clarify, what the GOPEs think and do is meaningless as far as protecting traditional American values and defending the Constitution.
This is strictly kabuki for election season. He knows that even if passed Obama would veto it.
LOL!
Someone has figured it out.
Frankly, I despise the GOPe leadership more than I do the rank and file Democrat Congress. With the Democrats I know what they are, what they will do and how they will vote.
With the GOPe leadership, all we get is simpering, treasonous, backstabbing deception and equivocating. They only care about their own second-tier power and perks. They are the worst humanity has to offer in my opinion. Coward pussies all.
Sure right! He’s a fraud!
Pointless effort.
It would never get past the Court.
Totally agree with you.
McConnell is going to put on a show, knowing it will fail.
This is a false premise. Roe effectively decided that the Federal government could not ban abortions and pitched the turd back to the states. This is why we have state after state challenges over the years since.
The real vote should be a specification that these bans and laws are state issues and that the Federal government and its entities cannot interfere or make decisions for or against state bans.
Probably not going to happen.
I think he’ll get around to it right after he preserves traditional marriage.
A meaningless vote. He knows if it manages to pass obama will veto it and he can’t over ride the veto. Just like all the obamacare votes taken in the House and Senate they mean nothing. And when Cruz tried to make a stand where it counted to stop obamacare he was crucified by none other than McWeasal instead of supporting the effort.
And all the good liberals then demanded we elect Mitch.
“Mitch McConnell commits to abortion ban vote”
He doesn’t have to cave, the vote he’s talking about is cloture and he knows he won’t get sixty votes. Even if this were to pass we know SCOTUS will knock it down. Thanks Lindsey Graham for helping obama with his court selections.
The GOP with few exceptions has become a total disappointment.
They will demand we elect the liberal clod they nominate in 2016 as well or, or gasp, we might get Hillary nominating justices to the supreme kangaroo court that are liberals, just like the Republican nominees but Republican liberals nominated to the kangaroo court are better because they are Republican approved. They are so pathetic.
Wait until Schumer becomes the Dem Leader and Mitch McCon-job will really take it to them. Yeah, right...
If this idiots were smart, I know that’s asking for a lot, they would jump on the anti racism bandwagon and introduce a bill condemning and defunding Planned Parenthood as a racist organization started for the purpose of exterminating the black race.
