Treasury’s new $10 bill idea prompts outcry in defense of Alexander Hamilton

The Obama administration has a money problem.

More specifically, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is under attack for announcing that the U.S. Treasury will change the $10 bill in order to add a woman’s portrait to the currency.

The scathing critiques, from former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to the USA Today editorial board and leading historians, have come after Lew’s decision to demote Alexander Hamilton, the nation’s first Treasury secretary, from his prominent position on the face of the $10 bill.

“I was appalled,” Bernanke said upon hearing the news.

Lew’s decision is “sad and shockingly misguided,” wrote Hamilton biographer Ron Chernow.

The Wall Street Journal even compared Lew to Aaron Burr, the vice president to Thomas Jefferson who killed Hamilton in a duel.

Former Treasury officials are expressing their “disappointment” to the current administration directly as well.

“I expressed myself to Treasury and publicly. I suspect others are doing the same,” said Tony Fratto, a former assistant secretary in the George W. Bush administration.

Not even a grassroots advocacy group that collected 600,000 names on a petition in favor of putting a woman on the $20 bill and removing former President Andrew Jackson from that note is happy with Lew’s decision. It is still pushing on its website for Lew to put a woman on the $20 bill rather than the $10 bill.

Wait! I have a GREAT idea! How about a .99 cent bill!

You can just use it to add to any 1 or 2 or 3 or so on .99 cent purchase!

Wait... taxes.

Wait until the NAACP remembers that many historians (but not all) strongly believe Hamilton was 1/4 or perhaps 1/2 negro.

He was born on the Caribbean island of Nevis, the bastard son of a woman who was probably 1/2 or 1/4 Black herself.

His father may have been the White man she was then-married to, or more likely, a slave she was known to have affairs with.

Since Hamilton is the only person of color on any US paper currency, why aren’t Sharpton, Jackson, et al. raising all sorts of Hell about dropping him from the $10 bill?

Naw, they need to put a afrikan-amerikan(cause that’s all that matters)

We could put Abbey Lincoln on the five dollar bill. They wouldn't even have to change the spelling that much on the plates.

Oprah isn't eligible because no living person can be represented on US coin or currency.

That's funny! It almost sounds like -- for just a second -- you thought that rules mattered!

The Ten Spot is already on different paper. Would someone like, say, Abigail Adams want all Federal Reserve Notes to be the same color?

Why, oh why?

Any non-president put on this bill, will be there for phoney reasons.

Caitlyn Jenner fits, just like his/her Wheaties Box.

Greta suggested tonight we create a $25 bill.

Then 19.95 will become 24.50...

Last night Greta suggested an alternative...a $15 dollar bill...so they could put a woman on that. She asked for suggestions...mine was...not a $15 dollar bill, but rather a $3 dollar bill, then there would be no political fallout when Hillary was chosen for it. What people don’t realize, if there is any traction to this, then you will have to have a black next, a gay, a Mexican and an Amish.

I personally don’t think they want a bill larger than a $100 bill because of counterfeiting problems

And drug cartels would love using 500 dollar bills, it would help solve their problem of moving all that bulky money around.
