In a nation that based its Declaration of Independence on the principle that all men are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, a record 58 percent now say they would vote to elect a generally well-qualified atheist as president if their political party nominated such a person.
In a poll conducted June 2-7, Gallup asked 771 adults living in the United States this question: Between now and the 2016 political conventions, there will be discussion about the qualifications of presidential candidatestheir education, age, religion, race, and so on. If your party nominated a generally well-qualified person for president who happened to be an atheist, would you vote for that person?
58 percent said, yes, they would; 40 percent said, no, they would not; and 1 percent had no opinion.

I’ m pretty sure the same percentage would vote for a pedophile, child molester and/or serial killer. That’s how far the country has fallen.
We are in an ideological war. From a Marxist viewpoint, an atheistic mind is already three-fourths conquered. The reason I posted that quote in the OP is because it suggests, if not outright declares, the nonexistence of the conservative atheist in the context of the USA.
The Naked Communist, Chapter 12
Love your humor!
Confusing “freedom” with “license”?
And no, I wasn’t threatening you, which is a liberal knee-jerk reaction. What’s with the exclamation points? This isn’t a comic book.
Well thank you. Others have commented but you seem to have gotten the point I made regarding the absurdity of this “straw man” poll.
Rather, claiming someone might be threatening you is the liberal knee-jerk reaction. Demonstrates low confidence in one’s viewpoints.
“Id settle for one that actually believes in the rule of law.”

+1 So would I but they seem to be few and far between in this country.
Why not Jindal? I’m curious?
well, that’s better than a satanist!
Obama is his own god.
All paths of virtue lead to and from Barry
Not sure what you call people who believe in their own divinity
I dunno. high squeaky voice, Lousiana, something about him not standing up for a person who was attacked a while back is in my memory although vaguely
Libs make war with words. Do I have to repeat it? Your contention that I am confusing “Freedom” with “License” certainly underlines your misunderstanding of the word Freedom!
Considering the FACT that the First Amendment is all about FREEDOM of Speech and Freedom of religion, IF you have any respect or understanding of the word Freedom, you must admit Freedom means “the FREE EXERCISE THEREOF.”
Just in case you are in any doubt, I refer you to Roosevelt’s State of the Union Address in January of 1941, otherwise known as “THE FOUR FREEDOMS SPEECH,” in which he enumerated those Freedoms as the following:
Freedom of Speech
Freedom of Worship
Freedom from Want
Freedom from Fear
Since “license” has a string of meanings among which is “ a permit” the word does not apply. I do not have to ask or apply for a permit to state my beliefs(Not YET) as it is GRANTED by the First Amendment of the Constitution.
A truly discerning understanding of the English language would immediately show the difference. LIBERALS wish to deny the Constitution and FORCE us to APPLY for permission to state our issues. Such is not the case, lawfully.
NOW. As to the use of exclamation points, I am a WRITER. I understand the meaning of proper punctuation in addition to possessing a good vocabulary. As I left COMIC Books behind me approximately Sixty five years ago, I would suggest you climb out of Batman’s World and join the REAL world. Your snarky, derogatory innuendos bespeak of either your youth or your adult infantile attitude. I do not know, nor care which.
You’re very welcome.
Were a conservative atheist running against a liberal Christian (or Jew, or Hindu, etc.), I’d vote for him or her without hesitation. Why in the world not?
I’d take an Atheist who understood that the Constitution is the central document and not to be messed with over the Huckster anyday. I know a couple of Atheists who reverence the Constitution because it is balanced and it works. They are also business owners who understand the economy.
I trust no wanna be theocrat, regardless of how their stated religious beliefs align with mine if they don’t first and foremost respect the separation of powers and the limited role of government.
Church and state should be divorced enough that the beliefs, or lack thereof, of the POTUS should make no difference in policy whatsoever.
I don’t think a belief in the divine is necessary to believing that the founding fathers got it pretty much right in designing a government, anymore than one must be a Baptist, Catholic or Jew to appreciate and use a Shelby Cobra, F-15 or Ma Deuce
It demonstrates nothing of the sort. You have attacked me repeatedly, trying to impugn my claim of conservatism. Regardless of the evidence in my postings, you continue to attribute “Liberal Knee Jerk reactions” to me in an attempt to press a point which has no validity. Really, you should learn that when you’re deep in the hole you should stop digging!
How many atheists understand that? Especially in light of the fact that the Constitution was indeed made only for moral and religious people, as Adams said.
I do not claim that Huckabee is Christian.
And there are no “wannabe theocrats” in the USA; that’s a liberal scare tactic.
Only a small point I would like to make :One of the greatest Generals who ever lived had a high squeaky voice, George S. Patton. His voice had nothing to do with his effectiveness. The man was a genius.
Jindal stood up for Religious Freedom recently when the La. Legislature backed away from a bill which was about to pass protecting Religious liberty. He issued an Executive Order protecting what they would not protect, the First Amendment. From among three governors he was the only one who stood his ground in the face of liberals.
