Such a shame. Even though I hated 8 Is Enough as a kid, I now watch the opening because it’s so nice to see a “sane” TV family.
He was also in the Weird Al send up of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” briefly.

I have a friend who have 8 boys.
RIP Mr. Van Patten.

I liked 8 is enough. Looking back reminds me of a time when TV families were not all bizarre, had a mom and dad, etc.

I remember him from I Remember MAMA. One of my favorite shows as a kid.

I liked 8 is enough. Looking back reminds me of a time when TV families were not all bizarre, had a mom and dad, etc. So true. If memory serves, I believe the producers of 8 is Enough went out of their way to present a normal, yet large family with both parents, since the 70's saw a rise in single parent households on TV. Tragically, the woman who played the mother died of cancer and the show was too grief stricken to replace her, so it was now a single father raising his kids.
