Ted Cruz offered a vigorous defense of religious liberty on Thursday at a Faith & Freedom Coalition Conference while accusing other Republicans, including presidential candidates, of taking time to "rearrange their sock drawers" when controversy over state freedom legislation arises.
The Texas Senator opened his remarks offering a moment of silence for Wednesday's murder victims of Emanuel A.M.E. church in Charleston, S.C.
"Today the body of Christ is in mourning," declared Cruz.
Cruz argued that the issue of religious liberty will be "front and center" in the 2016 presidential campaign.
"I am profoundly optimistic we are going to turn this nation around because of the leaders gathered here today," he continued, while offering praise for the work being done by Ralph Read, founder of Faith & Freedom Coalition and Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America.

Indeed too many are conscientious objectors in the Culture War.
Ted’s going for broke with the religious right. Good. Let’s find out once and for all what path the people of this country want to follow.
I was no angel, and had my share of confessing to do, but what’s going on today? just wow. We drank and had a few laughs. But now they are doing heroin and molly and meth in all of the wealthy neighborhoods on Staten Island. Casual sex is rampant. Acceptance of any deviancy seems to be the norm. A country cannot survive very long on this path..
It appears that Cruz, Santorum, and Jindal are the only ones that can be counted on to fight the fight, with Huckabee and Carson as maybes. The rest are playing to the mushy middle.
It needs to be about the Lord... personally.
Morals can help a society rub along better. But they won’t save souls.
All need to take into account the sobering possibility that American society at large will say no. With God not even a hypothesis in view, they won’t be able to keep from self destruction.
Unfortunately, most people with a life can't possibly track all the fuzzy social and political issues.
How can we easily get the names of these slippery Republicans?
Agreed.
This seems more of a flavor of exhortation that, whoever might be doing that, to please stop, than Yet Another Rogues Listing.
There are no fence sitters in heaven. When will the leaders of this country realize it. . . I think Ted gets it
I have paid dearly in the past for my sins and arrogance. Now I know and see that without God in your life, you can stray into very bad territory.
I teach my nephews and nieces that all the time.
Interesting.
You do know that’s it’s the same path?
That’s wonderful that you share your faith with your nieces and nephews. There is too little sharing of the thing that matters most anymore.
>>Acceptance of any deviancy seems to be the norm.
There are Due Penalties for that.
And unfortunately the Chinese and the Russians know it.
