Ha! I guess you were too young to listen to Father Coughlin who is now vilified as a monster. Or Cardinal Sheen or any of the cardinals, priests and bishops who fought communism across the globe or even read my first religion class text book which had a cartoon of a Soviet teacher screaming at children “There is no God!”

To sum it up:
Socialism is atheistic. Catholicism teaches care for the poor because Jesus Himself encouraged it. Giving to the poor is done out of love for God and compassion for one's neighbor.
