....”That is exactly what TPA does. It makes Congress part of the process, restricts the President in what he can do, and requires him to regularly report on the negotiations to Congress. Without TPA, the public gets No review.”....
But many oppose it believing that passing TPA opens the way for passage of TPP which they don’t want.
The TPA not only does that, it cures impedigo, removes stains, and it slices and juliennes fries! Its not just a job killer and globalist enrichment act, it’s the trade bill of 140 uses!
Buy your TPA o matic for only a billion dollars in campaign contributions. Its a bargain at twice the price!
But that’s not all. Act now and we’ll throw in the TPP, and a special CD of John Boehner singing his favorite Christmas tunes!
The TPA o matic. Get it at your Chamber Of Crony Capitalists!
“him to regularly report on the negotiations to Congress. Without TPA, the public gets No review”
But the negotiations are mostly over. They’ve been done in secret and will remain secret.
Only ‘future’ negotiations will be subject to the TPA.
To pass TPP as a treaty would require 2/3 of the Senate and to get those votes much would have to be revealed, of both past and future negotiations.
So this argument isn’t persuasive.
If TPA was up for a vote when only preliminary deal-making had started I’d *tend* to support it- though the present team in Washington is very suspect, to say the least- as there is an advantage in having more certainty that the final ‘deal’ will pass.
