Sen. Ted Cruzs wife grew from baking bread in SLO to breaking bread with the Washington elite
Presidential politics first captured Heidi Nelson Cruzs attention in the 1980s, when the 12-year-old read a Time magazine piece about the Ronald Reagan-Walter Mondale race while working at her San Luis Obispo bread stand.
She would later become a Capitol Hill intern, a policy aide on the George W. Bush campaign and economic director for the Western Hemisphere with the National Security Council. But while government and politics might have been her calling at one time, nothing in her background could have prepared her for this summer, when her husband, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, helped force a shutdown of the federal government.
We were blessed to go to good schools and have careers that Ted and I enjoyed, said Cruz, 41. But we were in no way well known.
That all changed, of course, when the newly elected Republican senator from Texas waged a campaign culminating with a 21-hour speech on the Senate floor to defund President Barack Obamas health care program. His ardent stance brought nightly media attention, praise from supporters on the right and harsh criticism from the left.
While he became a darling of the Tea Party fueling talk of a possible presidential run in 2016 critics called him a fraud, self-aggrandizing and nutty.
Those words might have bothered some, Heidi Cruz said, but not her husband.
He has an incredible heart, but hes not the kind of person thats trying to do what everybody wants him to do, she said. Hes trying to do what he thinks is right, and he has an innate ability to really not worry about things beyond his control.
The senators ability to deflect criticisms including some from his own party has affected her own reactions, she said.
Imadine what its like for us conversing with a CDS’ing lobotomite though.
The biggest frustration for me is that we have been on a full site uproar for three weeks about this thing and still we have the majority of the commenters that don’t know anything about the history of this type of legislation. We then get posters with an agenda pretending that a sea-change in trade negotiations is underway and the Senate is “giving up their authority under the Constitution” when they are merely making their process free of the log rolling contention as they have done for 75 years and doing it with a shared process agreement with the House.
What in the heck happened to the researching and self-educating FR posters we used to have that would keep us all from looking like fools by shutting down the idiocy?
Yeah but I don't envy her the experience. After all the shots at Michelle Obama the Democrats and the media will be merciless.
The TPA is not secret, and it was consistently renewed since FDR until Harry Reid killed it for GW Bush.
The problem is the trade agreements, they are secret. The secrecy is the problem because it allows for conspiracy theory minded hecklers to have a field day fomenting discord.
Ted Cruz thinks it is STUPID that the trade agreements are secret and advocates they be made public right now. But he said the good news is that if TPA passes it will require all trade agreements using TPA to be public at least 60 days before voting on them.
I also don’t like Boehner. In fact I loathe him and he is just threw 3 fine conservatives off the whip team. The fact that he wants to get TPA passed by hook or crook disturbs me.
I will have one question for Ted Cruz when I see him for a town hall.
“If TPA were to pass this month, the first trade bill, say TPP, could be voted on by say September this year 2015. What makes you confident that Obama won’t ‘modify TPP or any other trade agreement in a way that harms the rights of Americans?’”
Only men can be 33 degree Scottish Rite Masons.
She could however, be a member of the EASTERN STAR!
Some sources say that she contracted with Chinese run, slave worker, "bread making factories" that provided her with fake French (and other types of) Bread, which she then sold, at massively marked up prices, to unwitting Americans.
That's how (at 13) she was able to buy a controlling amount of stock in Goldman Sachs (and she is still secretly wielding that control, to this day)!
Also, the fake Bread was delivered by using all illegal immigrants, crossing the border from Mexico!
Once I heard about this (on the internet), I decided that I could never support Ted Cruz .... because everybody KNOWS that his wife is, and always will be, controlling all of his activities!
My wife controls our bread
Same with CAFTA
Exactly. This is becoming a worse mess by the minute.
The GOP-e is sneaking stuff into the bill that has no business being in it. I hope, if it goes to the Senate, Cruz votes no this time.
Credit Default Swaps are complex.
“The brown dog barks at 1200 hours”
That was LAST week! Doh! How are we going to conquer the planet with this kind of organization?
“...critics called him a fraud, self-aggrandizing and nutty.
Don’t forget, “Whacko bird”.
From what I understand they can. They are still called “brothers” I guess. Freemasonry confuses me.
Ironclad supporting evidence that Mrs. Cruz is the one who is controlling this whole TPATPPPTAAPTPAT... conspiracy thing!
Sorry for the missing the mark. Obviously you are NOT a Paul supporter.
Not much of an anyone supporter.
Coherent explanation. I didn’t think he could be so conservative in all other issues, yet ‘cave’ on others and sabotage his candidacy. That’s not what someone who wins Supreme Court cases does.
He has a bigger picture, geared to reviving our economy quickly. Our schools won’t turn around in the 4-8 years 1 president gets.
Proposed and defeated. But good try.
Wasn't that the nutty senator married to the Arizona beer baroness? With umpteen houses?
Because, after waiting a minimum of 60 days, during which the final TPP is published and discussed, both houses of Congress must vote it up or down by simple majority. And there are more Republicans than Democrats in both the House and the Senate.
If Zero wants a trade bill in his miserable "legacy", then he'd better negotiate a clean one!
