In an effort to protect the environment, Austin,Texas passed an ordinance banning single-use plastic bags in 2013.
However, a recent review concludes that Austins bag ban has backfired, creating more negative effects on the environment than the plastic bags it outlawed. [ ]
Two years after the bag ban was implemented, the city asked the Austin Resource Recovery group to investigate its effectiveness. Their June 10 report, written by Aaron Waters, states that while the ban was successful in lowering the amount of single-use plastic bags made from high-density polyethylene in city landfills, it was actually worse for the environment overall.
The amount of single use plastic bags has been reduced, both in count and by weight, Waters states. However, in their place, the larger 4 mil [4⁄1,000 of an inch] bags have replaced them as the go to standard when the reusable bag is left at home. This reusable plastic bag, along with the paper bag, has a very high carbon footprint compared to the single use bag.

Hey, dumbasses. Think of a carbon footprint as a money footprint. It costs and has long been factored in before you thought you got smart and self-righteous.
The free market already figured it out decades ago.
Pardon me while I laugh my ass off.
Just like everything else liberals do, if it's bad, they make up for it in volume.
And 3rd grade public school classrooms scream in unison,”No! They are lying!”
The people who passed this don’t care, their housekeepers do the shopping. Watch them double down and outlaw everything but canvas e-coli bags.
No leftist lunatic liberal plan for the public ever quite works out the way it was intended.
Even Los Angeles went back to plastic bags.
Now they want to ban reusable bags since they are bad for the environment. Crazy people.
Without the plastic grocery bags I would have to buy plastic bags for garbage cans in the kitchen and bathrooms, picking up dog poop, throwing away garage waste, and various other uses.
Extra plastic bags I take back to the grocery store recycle box at their entrances.
So what! It is not about the environment, it is about control and you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette!
The City of Austism strikes again.
What’s in your shopping bag? Bacteria

“Reusable” doesn’t mean “self-cleaning.”

Tested bags contained salmonella, E. coli and other dangerous bacteria
lol
I'd say most of the litter you see on the street is from fast food joints and their typical clientele.
Portsmouth, NH was talking about banning plastic bags. They did a test on canvas bags owned by people. 70% tested positive for e-coli. I say bring back paper bags. Plus, I use the small plastic bags for my bathroom trash cans.
STOP listening to these know nothing EnvironMENTALists
PERFECT!!!
I’m glad I was there in the early 70’s before it got REAL BAD STUPID.
But the idea looked so good on paper!!!!
[Another brilliant Lib idea that wasn’t so brilliant, after all.]
My wife is afraid I will offend someone calling it that but it fits the mind set to a tee.
