A coalition of far-right, anti-immigrant parties in the European Parliament announced Tuesday they are uniting to form a political group under the leadership of France's National Front chief Marine Le Pen.

Tuesday's move of the National Front, the Dutch PVV of Geert Wilders, Austria's Freedom Party, Italy's Northern League and the Belgian Flemish Interest Party will give them more clout in the European Union legislature and add more of an anti-EU flavor to its proceedings. The group will also push its strong the anti-immigrant agenda.

"I am happy to announce the beginning of the group Europe of Nations and Freedoms," Le Pen told reporters, surrounded by leaders of the other political groups. "We will be a political force that cannot be compared to our previous situation."

Translation:

"Far-right, anti-immigrant parties form EU Parliament group."

People we deem unfriendly to our one-world, anti-sovereignty global nanny state objectives and whom we thereby name "extreme" agree that the situation with illegal immigration, which we re-name "immigration" in order to undermine opponents of lawlessness.

Yeah, how did they come up with the label? "Anti-immigrant" (as in anti-illegal immigrant) covers a sizable portion of the American population.

The virtues of a parliamentary system with proportional representation is that it gives alternative parties with fresh, new ideas, room to take off. Our system, with one Demopublican party, strangles new parties in their cradles, thanks to draconian ballot access laws, exclusionary debate rules, and, perhaps worse of all, a winner-takes-all Electoral College. Am I in favor of abolishing the EC? Heck, no. But it needs to be proportional. That would eliminate false landslides, and allow third parties to be kingmaker if neither of the Demopublicans hits 270.

Thank you for this. You are correct that the two-party system is very limiting. I have been meaning to examine the parliamentary system to weigh the pros and cons.

Abolishing the EC scares me. I don’t like direct democracy since you end up with mob-rule where 51% can force their will on the other 49%.

Kennedy/Nixon, Carter/Ford, Bush/Gore, Bush/Kerry. Anyhow, I never said abolish the EC; that runs the risk of recounts all over the place. Florida 2000 X 50. No, what I said was proportionalize the EC, to accurately reflect the popular vote percentage.
